Never knew Stan was born the day before Thanksgiving. As Cardinal fans, we sure have a lot to be thankful for having Stan The Man being the face of our team for all of these decades.

Re: Happy Birthday Stan Musial

Just started reading a book about Stan, this one being the fairly recent one by George Vecsey called "Stan Musial - An American Life".

Was out of town on business last week and took the book with me. I've had it for a year now and am finally just getting started on it.

Happy Birthday, Stan!

Re: Happy Birthday Stan Musial

Also Ken Griffey Jr's birthday - and amazingly enough, not only was he born the same date as Stan Musial (just 49 years later) but was born in the same town, Donora, PA.

I've always been pleased I got to see Stan play once - in an old-timers game in Atlanta in 1978.  Roger Maris also played in that game, which was apparently a fairly rare thing for him, but his friend Clete Boyer was there and probably talked Roger into taking part.

Also wondering... at 92, where does Stan rate now among the oldest-living Cardinals.  I'd think he's gotta be top 5 or 10 easy.

Musial is third after Bill Endicott (94) and Wally Westlake (92). I wrote about Endicott recently here.

Stan is the living Cardinal who played the longest ago, having made his debut in September 1941. Red is second (April 1945)

He wasn't. He was born four days before Thanksgiving 1920!

For some good Musial reading, check out RetroSimba's article posted yesterday about Stan stealing home four times.
