this quote pretty much sums up why the marlins' ownership needs to be removed for the good the game:
"just about any (marlins) player making money is going to toronto," a source told espn.

The fans in Miami have every right to be ticked about the fire sale but they got duped into funding the stadium. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Is there anyway we can call dibs on Giancarlo Stanton if/when they decide to trade him?

A joke, yes. But over the last 15 years, they've won as many world championships as the Cards. I'm not sure what that says.

If nobody is coming anyway, a rebuilding period is a perfectly reasonable business decision, and might be the best thing for the franchinse in the long run... Edit: I will say that depending on contracts signed for corporate boxe/suites etc. I could certainly understand how they could be upset..

I'd think Bud would halt this trade for the reasons cited early in this thread. After campaigning for and getting a public-funded stadium, the commissioner's office has some of its credibility at stake.

"I'm not gonna do whatever body thinks I'm gonna do and freak out! Ugh, I need a bath."- Logan morrison
"Its a good day to be a bluejay!"- jose bautista

Yes, winning championships is the ultimate prize, but it sure makes it enjoyable watching the Cardinals competing year in and year out to play in October. If you want a fan base you need to win consistently (unless you're the Cubs).

Yes. Oddly, the only two times the Marlins made the post-season, they won the World Series - 1996 and 2003.
(Loria didn't buy the Expos until 1999 and swapped his way into Miami in 2002.)

RE: Miami pulling a switcheroo on it's fans?
It's also important to remember those two Marlins teams were constructed mostly by Dave Dombrowski and under ownership. The 2003 title was won predominately with Dombrowski's residual acquisitions and draftees and well before Loria would burn the franchise to the ground and swindle an entire city out of public funds. It's going to be a really long time until that franchise sniffs another title. The Marlins aren't a magic franchise, they were just a well run, low-payroll franchise with very talented baseball minds in the front office and scouting department. The only thing left now is the low-payroll and a toxic owner.

Domeboys- actually it was 1997 and 2003. The Yankee's beat the Braves in 96.

And if people remember. One of the sites I posted on I was ripping on the Marlins right around the time they had signed Buerhle, Bell and were targeting Pujols. I stated that they would disband this team very quickly and it was an embarrassment to baseball. So they had a master plan of getting people to the park with Latin Players start winning some and then build on that. They gave it less than half a year. It's criminal that they duped the county and the fans. MLB should really take the team back because they are a utter joke.

I honestly think they pulled a fast one on their fans. I would suspect that Bud pulls the plug on this trade. They will trade these guys but not in this one deal.

I doubt Bud pulls the plug on this trade. He has allowed a lot more lop sided trades to pass without even blinking and this one is really not all that lopsided either.
