The Cardinals have officially announced their 2013 major league staff. Considerable changes are coming in the minors.

Boy, do I feel old. Every member of the Cardinals' coaching staff is younger than me.

RE: Mark McGwire to Dodgers
It is a fine line between continuity and fresh blood, but I like the changes.

I would like to see Berkman as the new assistent hitting coach, but I know it will never happen. I am 95% certain that Berkman will return to the Astros, either as DH or coach.

Needless to say, I think the old adage "you're not getting older....you're getting better" especially applies to Crdswmn. What's with this "Assistant Hitting Coach" jazz? What next? Assistant to the Assistant Hitting Coach"? "Assistant Bat Boy"? Pitching coaches don't get assistants, why should hitting coaches? Indeed, Brian. I too do not see TLR tossing on a uni in the foreseeable future, but if special circumstances called for it, I bet Tony would spring to action.

Re: Mark McGwire to Dodgers
I wasn't going to post on this thread but I will miss seeing Mac. I was thrilled when he returned to the Cardinals and came clean on his past PED usage. That was good for all of us. And I think most of us feel we're losing (or LA's gaining) a seasoned hitting coach who happens to be very good at his job.
EDIT: "Enhancing"

That does appear to be the case, but Big Mac certainly had the horses here in St.Louis to work with and he's not exactly inheriting a pack of mules in LA.

RE: Mark McGwire to Dodgers
Best wishes to Mark. The steroids stuff is obviously unfortunate but I will always remember the HR spectacle in the late 90s and how it brought such a buzz to town again just a few years removed from the strike. He seemed to be great with out hitters so I will miss him from that standpoint but he has always seemed to place a high value on family which is admirable and I will always respect the strength of character it took to completely walk away from the contract he had at the time he did.
