RE: Dyar Miller not retained

Seems surprising that a guy in the system so long wouldn't be reassigned instead of fired. Maybe they thought it was time for him to retire and he wouldn't. Been some turnover out there. Bullpen catcher might be next. Well, I wish him well, anybody involved in developing young pitchers the last few years deserves a pat on the back.

Re: Dyar Miller not retained

Could it be that Dyar Miller's being added to Matheny's first coaching staff was just a reward for his past years in the Cardinals minor league system?  Who knows, maybe Dyar needed one more year at the major league level to maximizes his MLB pension benefits.  It will be interesting to see if he lands on the scouting staff in some capacity, or if he is totally removed from the STL organization.

Check your facts, sir.

Dyar was offered the chance to stay with the organization. Turned it down.

The man is 66 years old, and preferred to shop his wares. His choice. I wish him well... but what I've read, he presents himself as an undiplomatic guy with a somewhat, shall we say, exaggerated sense of his own importance. Just my take.

One thing: when there's a managerial turnover, and an old, old man is retained for a year, it may be that the club is... doing... him... a FAVOR. If Miller doesn't see it that way, so be it.

If you are 66-67 years old and your boss is talking about his long-term staffing plans....then you are probably in deep do-do!  I think Dyar Miller should have looked at his 2012 season as a gift.  Too bad he didn't get a World Series check.

I hadn't read that anywhere.

While it may be a rumor, it is highly doubtful that it comes to fruition. Cal is a VERY big family man and the chances of him up rooting his family are slim. He lives in Iowa not far from where he and his wife grew up, and with in a very short distance of their extended family. They also have kids in school yet who they want to graduate in the area. I have been able to speak with Cal and his wife sevral times in the past year as they are friends of my in laws. I can tell you his wife has zero intention of leaving Iowa as she had enough of that lifestyle in his playing days. Hence the reason Cal lives out of the family RV during the season when he is doing work for Fox.

I think Ryan Franklin has been working in the front office, maybe he will end up out there.

When your immediate boss is 42 and his boss is 43.....and you are 66, yes in their eyes you are "old"!  (Personally, my 66th year was a fun year!)

Some people are good at meshing with persons of authority who are their kids age. Some less so.

An aside here -  during Eldred's playing days with the Cards there was a picture of about 10 of the wives at some function or other.  Cal's wife really mad an impression on me because she simply didn't look like the stereotypical baseball wife - blond, model-like Barbie doll.  She looked like an attractive 'real' person.  Cal scored brownie points with me that day.
