With the season over, whats your sport focus now?

With the season over, whats your sport focus now?

usually i'd shift focus (but not to the same extent as redbird interest) to rooting for the red wings in the nhl (plz end the lockout soon) and supplement that with following college football (no specific team, just a general fan)

after the college football season ends, the supplement becomes college basketball (but not until near end of feb) i love march madness, as it is truly exciting sports. again, no specific team, just watch it generally as a fan, like i do with college football.

i can't get into the nfl. they all feel like mercenaries to me.

thats usually my sports plan to get me through the cardinal off season. how about you?

No STL Blues, so may go see the Peoria Rivermen play later this fall.  Mizzou sux, but will still go see them play Kentucky Saturday.  Rams and Chiefs not much better.  Mizzou should have a good basketball team  and I go to alot of High School football and basketball throughout the Ozarks & Mid Missouri.

1.  Saints
2.  If MSU (the one in MS) gets a bowl bid in a decent locale--not Shreveport, Memphis, Boise, or Atlanta--we may go bowling over the holiday season.
3.  hunting/fishing with my son....

I also wish there was NHL hockey but i root for the good guys not the Detroit red army team. Also March madness is great but a long way off. I only watch the NFL if nothing else is on as i find it really mundane. The college game is just a putrid snore fest with one team almost always dominating the entire game. As entertainment it is one rung below Honey Boo Boo IMO.

the red wings are more about swedish players, than russian players. for awhile now, only 1 russian on the team, pavel datsyuk.

i dont agree with the college football comment at all. many many many close games happen all the time. heck, its almost like mlb in that anything could happen regarding outcomes alot of the time.

The Wings have a long history of Russian born players going all the way back to Vaclav Nedomansky. No team is more known for their Russian players than the red menace from Detroit. Plus their uniforms are all red. Close games in college football are rare from what i have seen. Sure they do happen but it is NOT the norm. Heck i will give you the top 10 for the 2020 season right now. 1. Ala, 2. O.K, 3.LSU, 4.Ohio St, 5.Mich, 6.USC, 7.OR, 8.FL, 9.FL st, 10.TX.

I follow Nebraska and Wyoming in football, although Wyoming usually doesn't have a lot to root for other than winning their rivarly games and once in awhile going to a minor bowl.

Nothing much other than that. Where I live is Denver Bronco country, so most everyone around here lives and dies with their fortunes. I don't care one way or the other about the Broncos, although I'll join in on get-togethers for watching their games now and then.

Would go to an Avalanche hockey game or two if they were playing, and maybe a Denver Nuggets game. My wife is taking some classes at a local division two university, and we enjoy going to their basketball games. We take in 3 or 4 games every year - best kept sports secret in Denver as she gets in free and it costs me $8. We can get center court seats, and the games are always very competitive and exciting.

And I still stay in touch with baseball in the offseason. I'll go to our local SABR chapter's dinner in November - guests are Maury Wills and Jerry Reinsdorf this year, so not bad.

I have fantasy football but it's more of a nightmare right now. Illinois football sucks and the basketball team should tide me over until March. Notre Dame intrigues me. I have the Redskins but I usually work weekends. Trying to take every other Sunday off.

I may head to Arizona, SF or Seattle and catch a football game in December.

RE: With the season over, whats your sport focus now?

I will focus on darts and bocce ball, as a participant. Sadly, I am not a highly touted prospect at either.

I try to get into St. Louis U. hoops since two of my kids are alums and one in school there, but the program is fizzling IMO. And this year Majerus is gone and they have announced they will be coached by one of the assistants. Don't stand between me and the ticket window.

I like winning football, so that's not happening.

Blues? I got so sick of hearing about the 'kids' who would develop, and year after year the 'kids' weren't so great. Just tune them out. Was a big fan long ago in the old barn.

How many days until pitchers and catchers report?

University of North Carolina Baseball, Football

March Madness, Tar Heels, of course!

And I love the week between Christmas and New Years, and the week after New Years for all the bowl games. I take a week and veg in front of the TV. I tell the wife that the TV is broken, and will only tune in football games.
No negative waves man!

U. of Illinois basketball, but the baseball off season is one of the most interesting times for me with the 40 man rosters set and the winter meetings, trade talk, etc.

I'm a season ticketholder for both the Blues and SLU basketball.  A Blues game means a night out with my son which is always good.  All the hockey teams look like they play the same system. College basketball, played with legitimate student athletes, is enjoyable.  At least in college bball I can understand the different offensive sets and different defenses being played.

Next big baseball item for me will be getting a look at the various Cardinal minor league rosters for 2013 and then the draft.

A buddy of mine had a room downstairs that was sort of his "man cave" area. He had two televisions set up side-by-side, and during big sports weekends he would sit in his favorite chair with a cooler of beer next to the chair, with two events going.

And the bathroom was right there as well, the first door down the hall from that man cave area. There was also a door from that room that lead out to the garage, and he kept his cigs on a shelf in the garage right by the door, so he would sneak out there and light one up every now and then because his wife did not let him smoke in the house.

He had quite the set up, and maybe still has it that way although I haven't been to his house in a few years.

Packers, Blues, DePaul Blue Demons. With no hockey I might try and catch some SLU men's basketball but I've had trouble really getting into that program in the past.

By the way, with Cards done, Blues out and Rams on road and then bye, there's no pro sporting events in STL for 29 days (Oct 20-Nov 18). Credit to Rob Rains for that nugget.
