Game 1 lineup:

1. Solarte, 2B
2. Venable, RF
3. Smith, LF
4. Grandal, C
5. Goebbert, 1B
6. Maybin, CF
7. Amarista, SS
8. Nelson, 3B
9. Stults, P

Stults has been a surprise this month. In 4 starts in August, he has 1.46 ERA.

Ugly!

The Brewers make hitting off the Padres pitchers look so easy.
The Padres are like a high school team trying to hit MLB pitching.

I don't think anyone here ever jumps off a bandwagon.
First,we never jumped "on"...... Second, our loyalty never waivers.
But,that little, run we went on to start the second half gave many of us unrealistic hope and expectations and now we are just right back where we are.
Below average.
I think we're all just ready for above average for awhile!!

Ross was outstanding.

Despaigne on the mound for the rubber match. He worries me and has become unreliable.

So Grandal chooses not to go on the fly ball to Parra... and then decides to go on the ground ball to 3rd base? Bad base running.

Nice shot by rivera but horrible job of managing by black. Burns jerko store for pinch runner

Agreed. Had Grandal ran on the fly out, he would have scored and the Padres would have won in the 9th. The Padres have a several opportunities to score but couldn't get it done and kept hitting into DPs.

Despaigne actually had a solid game and against the Brewers no less.

Unfortunately Kershaw and the Dodgers won and the Padres remain 13 back.

Let's bring on the Dodgers.

I'm pretty sure he was held up by Hoffman.
Not sure on the ground ball but was probably told to go on anything not back to the mound.

On another note.....how good has Rivera been lately?
I admit to having misjudged him....especially behind the plate.

Agree too on Rivera … I too mis-judged him and didn't think he would even stick with the team. Given his work … and the fact that he is under control for 3 more years … he gives the Padres a bit more flexibility in letting Hedges work out his hitting woes in the MiL before calling him up and in either the use of Grandal (part time C / part time 1B) or as a trade chip. This winter is his first arbitration year so defense aside his offense and being "part-time" should keep him pretty low cost ($1MM - $1.5MM).

As for Grandal's baserunning … on TV (either Loretta or Sweeney) thought Hoffman told him to go on the fly ball but it was Grandal that aborted (for whatever reason). On the ground ball … it looked like a contact play and he was just going.
