We won't have to worry about Yadler Molina and his arm. He is on the DL.

In the postgame interview Black said "We have a if you homer you start next game rule. But I don't know if that will apply to Almonte"
Ugh if Venable or Amarista is in the lineup tomorrow

Expect Amarista at SS with Cabrera out and Solarte day to day.

That's too bad.  Solarte was doing so much for this team. Well, it was a nice little run of games. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see us get swept in this series. Cardinals are in the race moreso than us and they have actual stud players available (Carpenter, Peralta, Adams, Holliday, Jay, Pierzynski, Taveras, and then their starting pitching...)

Solarte is probably the one guy other than Liriano that I really want to see play nowadays. Nuts.

A split on the road against a contender would work for me. StL has a bit of a weakness … their hitting is only in the middle of the NL pack and they have hit less HR than the Padres. So, if the SD pitching can hold up … maybe a lot of 2-1 games.

Game 1 lineup:

1. Venable, CF
2. Medica, 1B
3. Smith, LF
4. Gyorko, 2B
5. Grandal, C
6. Liriano, RF
7. Amarista, SS
8. Nelson, 3B
9. Stults. P

I would rather have switch-hitting Almonte in the lineup than Venable.

Almonte has been atrocious vs RHP this season to the tune of 181/218/265 with 36 strike outs and only 4 walks in 87 PAs. He was a bit better last year (but not by much). In the minors he's had success against RHP from the left side, though, so hopefully he does get some starts here and there to (maybe) normalize his splits a little bit.

Having Venable bat leadoff. BB is nothing if not persistent

After Amarista's leadoff double, Nelson needs to sacrifice there to get him to 3rd.

You then have Stults try at least one suicide squeeze. If he's not successful, at least you have a guy at third that can score in so many different ways, as opposed to 2nd base.

Bad baseball man.

No no no.
This team isn't good enough offensively to give up an out just for one base....."especially" when the runner is already in scoring position!
Maybe......maybe if you're down by one run and it's the 8th or 9th....but down by two in the 3rd inning?
Until we get guys who can drive in runs consistently I have to disagree with you here.

I will say if it's the pitcher that's up then yes.....he isn't a good enough hitter to drive him in but probably is good at hunting.
Keep in mind that even if the hitter doesn't get a hit and drive him in any ground ball to the first base side and he's gonna advance anyway.
Alexi just should not have gone to third with the ball hit to the SS......plain and simple.

I don't know GHOF.... as historically bad as this team has been this year, you need to play for every run, especially with the pitcher up next.

The Cardinals most likely would have conceded the run, playing their defense at normal depth to avoid a bigger inning.

But bunting takes away all of the positive things that can happen at the plate that can score the run AND all the other possibilities that would move the runner over.
I don't even like when this team bunts a guy over from first to second even though that at least puts a guy into scoring position.....but you're talking about giving up an out just to move a guy "more" into scoring position.
Either way......with Padre luck if they bunt him over they'll pop up the bunt or if successful they'll leave him stranded and if they don't he won't score either.
We just aren't good enough offensively for either scenario to work often enough to determine which is best anyway.

1. He was blocking the plate
2. He whiffed like crazy
3. He chased Amarista knowing he whiffed
