The pitching matchups look good for us...
until I remember that it's the Padres who will be swinging the bats against Lynn, Kelley, and Miller.

The stats other than W-L are ridiculous...how is this team not in contention...oh, wait...they can't score.

I've had it with Venable.
That "bunt attempt" in B6 tonight was atrocious.
If you can't get clear of the Mendoza line all season long, at least figure out how to lay down a bunt.
Pitiful.
Trade him for whatever you can get, Hinch. It won't be much, but who cares?

I thought with Maybin back we would never have to see Ninja in CF again...  WOW

That Sac Fly was... interesting.  Ive never seen an outfielder catch a sac fly, going the wrong way, one handed, then spin and make a weird jump throw type thing into home.

Also remember how everyone was calling Solarte a bum....

Obvious small sample size but its really hard to complain

Re: St. Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres (July 29 - 31)

Nice win. Strong outing by Ross. But way to many walks (5). He needs to cut back on them.

This team can't bunt. Three attempts failed.  Why was Venable reaching all the way the other side of the plate to bunt. He was trying too hard. He can't bunt and can't hit.

Although he did fine out there, Amarista does not belong in the OF, especially CF.

Up next is Hahn, who has  a 1.47 ERA  since his MLB debut when he allowed 4 ER in only 3.2 IP and  a 1.00 ERA in 6 of his 8 starts that include three shutouts.

Tyson Ross now has 10 wins on a team with the worst offense in baseball.

Imagine what kind of year he would have had if he was still with the A's !

Re: St. Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres (July 29 - 31)

Padres record is now something like  33-5 when they score 4 runs or more

This is amazing for two reasons

1)  we have had incredibly consistent awesome pitching this year
2)  we have only scored 4 runs or more 38 times out of 106 games !

I believe FENN showed our pitching hasn't been as good as we thought. Mostly because it's relative to everyone else's pitching. We come in 8th both in Starting and Bullpen. That's out of the NL. And I'm not even sure that's home-field adjusted (which would make our total pitching even more suspect than we thought).

Gonna be pretty hard to convince us that Cashner,Ross,Hahn,Kennedy and Despaigne haven't been terrific.

Re: St. Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres (July 29 - 31)

Game 2 lineup:

1. Cabrera, SS
2. Amarista, CF
3. Smith, LF
4. Grandal, C
5. Solarte, 3B
6. Gyorko, 2B
7. Alonso, 1B
8. Venable, RF
9. Hahn, P

Amarista in CF again. Really. He doesn't belong there.

Solarte has been a pretty nice surprise so far.  Dont need a ton from him, but he's been good so far.

No. Just look at Cashner's innings pitched. He hasn't pitched but 75 innings on the year. Hahn has done great for us but he also joined us at the start of June. And remember he may tumble a bit when teams see more of his arsenal. Same thing for Depaigne.  Ross has been very good and healthy. Kennedy almost as good as Ross but Kennedy has had more down seasons than he has had good ones. How'd I do?

Crossing my fingers on Gyorko.  He has looked like 2013 Gyorko since coming off the DL  Its going to be tough for him to get out of that .170 BA hole but heres to hoping.

Solarte is just looking like everything Headley wasnt.  He is taking aggressive hacks but still doesnt look like hes swinging wildly.

Thank you Gyorko for not making me look dumb after I praised you by striking out wildly to end the inning.  I will take a bases clearing triple any day.

What is the ETA on when Enberg says "Gyorko is just a triple shy of the cycle?"

As long as he gets high pitches Solarte seems pretty good. Keep it up!
