It sad how the Cubs are throwing 2 starters with no wins or losses for their record this year. I would of done the same thing if I was facing a AAAA team (Padres).

At least we won't lose today since the Padres are not playing.

Worth mentioning as we start the series that Anthony Rizzo now is tied for the NL lead in HR with Stanton. Crushed one yesterday.

That was a trade that didn't have to be made.

Well, it was good thing Cash turned out to be a good solid pitcher. But if he continues to be on the DL, he may be on the trading block one year.

Wow.  Just wow.  This is tonights starting lineup.

  • Will Venable CF
  • Alexi Amarista SS
  • Seth Smith LF
  • Yasmani Grandal C
  • Chris Nelson 3B
  • Jake Goebbert 1B
  • Chris Denorfia RF
  • Brooks Conrad 2B
  • Eric Stults LHP

Somebody mark this date down on the calendar.  It is the date the Padres fielded their worst starting nine EVER.

Padres Baseball: Waiting until next year since 1969.

I saw that. Rizzo looks so confident and able it's scary. I'm in admiring mode now with Rizzo. He's truly become a professional hitter.

I hate the overuse of this idea, but this lineup is genuinely AAA tonight.  Grandal and Smith belong.  Everybody else would probably be better off in AAA.

That line up is our E ticket on draft day. I predict top five pick next June. I hope whoever takes over GM knows what a hitter is.

To be fair, everybody always knew that Rizzo could crush 88MPH fastballs!

Figures though....that on a day we trade Headley and field "this" team,Rizzo hits a bomb and rubs it in!
Padre luck once again!

WTH?
Buddy's at it again!
Why are we giving up outs and bunting down by TWO when we have zero offense to begin with?
I will never understand why Buddy thinks "this" team, that has such trouble putting a couple hits together, should be wasting any at bats?

I realize Stults was the hitter.....but a ground out will get him to third anyway!
A hit will,advance him.
A passed ball.....a wild pitch....a balk.....but a bunt always costs us an out even if it advances the runner.
We aren't good enough to score the guy from third even if we get him there....so swing the heck away!

Ugh. It's been.. what... almost 4 months now? And I still cannot get over this offense. It is so, so bad. Even a few weeks ago I still would have maintained there was no way we'd *actually* finish the season with the worst offense in modern history. Now I feel like its a forgone conclusion.

I guess the bright side is, though, that we have no where to go but up. It's virtually impossible for any of us to ever in our lifetimes witness an offense as bad as the one we're seeing the Padres field this season. It's historic.

And watching Rizzo do what he's doing just makes it sting even more. Yeah, he wouldn't have 25 bombs at Petco. But he'd still have twice as many as any of the guys we've got now. He's got massive power that translates to any ballpark, left handed or not.

Really we're witnessing two organizations going in complete opposite directions... The Cubs, with a bright future getting brighter, and us, with... whatever we've got over the cloudy horizon.

I am not a happy friar today.

Okay, this is going to sound negative but you know it's true...as long as there is a San Diego Padres franchise there is a decent chance of an even worse offense than this one.

Do we send our thank you cards directly to Josh Byrnes?

At least we can count on Cashner going every fifth game giving us a chance to win.

How sad is it that the AAA lineup (and the AA lineup) looks more impressive that the Padres...

AAA has a 1-3 of ECab, Gyorko, Alonso.  Galvez, Lindsey, and Fuentes are also in the lineup... and Wisler is starting.

On that note Lindsey collected his first El Paso hit, scoring Gyorko on a 2 out single.  1-0 El Paso after 1 (Which the pitching matchup of Wisler vs Drew Pomeranz is also more of a matchup than Kendricks vs Stults)

I'd love to see Deno shipped out and Fuentes called up to start in CF for the remainder of the season. I'd also like to see Conrad or Nelson cut and Galvez finally get a taste of the big leagues. At least then we'd have something to look forward to seeing every night. Who the eff wants to watch Amarista, Conrad, and Nelson out there?
