Anyone think the Boch is tipping his oversized cap to the big Friar for getting him the heck outta Petco?

I think he's probably done that a few times already... once for each of the rings on his fingers.

Also Ultra, better update this. Despaigne is getting the start tomorrow. Cashner was scratched for unknown and potentially disappointing reasons...

Ah man!

I have concerns about Despaigne. He has 6.03 ERA. I would have rather had Wisler or Needy called up.

Why the hell isn't Needy getting the call? What is he doing wrong in San Antonio?

Without knowing where Wisler or Needy are in their standard 5 day rotation, I think Despaigne makes the most sense in this case. He sort of is what he is at this point. The main reason he was in the minors was to stretch out. Now that he's done that, he can come up and do what he does in the big league rotation. No real reason to rush Needy or Wisler for what may or may not just be a spot start.

Needy pitched yesterday.

Also,I read they were just being careful with Cashner and his innings.
Skipping him because.......well......why not?
He's our most valuable player and this season seems lost.

Because pitching stats in SA are virtually meaningless … see Wisler, Oramas, Sampson, and even Despaigne SA vs EP performance … and of course last season's debacle of calling up Burch Smith.

Despaigne is a 28 year old veteran with little development value being in the MiL while any of the young prospects (Wisler, Needy, et. al) only benefit with the added development time … maybe Needy gets the bump to AAA.

Good point. I think the Padres have helped a lot of people by trading them to better places.  In Bochy's case, they freed him up to win a few rings.

The only one off the top of my head who really suffered when he left Petco was Heath Bell.  What happened to that guy ?

Ordrisamer Despaigne !!

Never heard of this guy, but that is one heck of a name!

Makes me wish Harry Caray was alive and doing play by play for tonight's game so I hear him butcher this one and come up with 4 or 5 different pronunciations

Bochy to Torres:  Can I try on your new protective pitching cap?

Torres to Bochy:  No, I don't want to stretch it out.

Padres Baseball: Waiting until next year since 1969.

Whenever Torres comes to pitch, the ballpark should play the Mario theme song when he warms up

Well... that was pretty classy by the Giants. They played the video MLB network put together for Tony, then had Bruce Bochy say something before giving the Padres a base from Tony's last game at AT&T park that he had signed. Finally they had a moment of true silence for Tony... no snarky fans ruining the moment.

Tip of my cap to that organization for that.

I was thinking that too when I saw Torres pitch that he was borrowing a old hat of Bochy's
