Gyorko to DL

Is this just a phantom injury because he's sucking ?   Or is the Plantar thing for real ?

Either way, this looks like a lost season for Gyorko
This Team makes me Drink !

Re: Gyorko to DL

I highly doubt its phantom. They'd just send him down to work on some things if they wanted him off the roster. Letting him sit on the bench with the big league club twiddling his thumbs does absolutely nothing for him or the team.

It's a legit injury, and it could mean he's on the DL for quite a bit longer than 15 days. Forsythe had an entire season destroyed by plantar fasciitis. As did Antonio Gates. Obviously there are varying degrees of severity, but it could definitely be a while with him.

Let's hope whatever the reason or for however long he comes back like the 2013 Jedd instead of the mess he's been so far this year!

He definitely needs time in the minors. His approach is awful right now. If the case for firing our hitting coaches can be made in any single player, it'd be Gyorko. The guy swings at awful pitches, he takes great ones, and when he swings at good ones he tries to yank em all. He's just not all there right now.

I've had the plantar fasciitis thing and it seems to never quite go away totally. If he really has this then I feel for him. It's much more than merely a heel malady btw. It hurts like hell to walk on it if you tear it up bad. Like I did.

Also wanted to say that it affects your foot flexibility and for an athlete that might be important.

But is it easy to spot on an xray or scan?
Or is it a convenient way to sit a struggling player without demoting him?
Like the good Ol' Oblique?

It's my theory there is a reason some of these maladies become popular.

While he is healing, the Padres management needs to heal from a foot up the arse for signing this guy too early and giving him the keys to the city after one semi successful year.

Re: Gyorko to DL

I expect this is a real injury … for a phantom injury use one that can be easily explained away as healing quickly like a groin, oblique, back, calf … harder to sell plantar faciitis healing quickly.

Based on Forsythe, Blanks, Pujols, Antonio Gates (Chargers) … this has the making of a problem that will be an issue for some time.

Or,this allows them to send him down for a long rehab assignment.....doesn't it?

No real point to use the DL … rehabs only last 20 days and then they have to be optioned or return …. guessing Gyorko needs a lot more than 20 days. Keep in mind that Byrnes made it clear that he has no problem with optioning Gyorko … he has done similar before when in AZ (C. Young for example after signing an extension).

Having said that … good chance they "rest" him on the DL for June …. give him some "pre-rehab" in AZ with the rookies (and work on his mechanics) … then try the rehab. All that should get him through July and into August. IF things look good he may return to off-set a Headley departure … if that happens. Maybe, if they made their final call on Headley departing they can reacquaint Gyorko with 3B while on the DL. Still, I give a 50/50 chance he ends up with the surgery (Forsythe did, Blanks did, Pujols did) since "rest" does not seem to be the solution for ballplayers who are stressing their feet daily.

Very easy to spot with an ultra-sound of the foot. I could even tell the difference between the good foot and the bad foot when the Doc showed me the ultra-sound results.

Re: Gyorko to DL

It is official. Jedd Gyorko is place on the 15-day DL, retroactive to June 4,  and in a corresponding move Stults was removed from the bereavement list.
