The Padres are coming off a tough series losing two games to the Pirates. The last time The Padres and Nats met they split a 4-game series. We have a couple of good pitching matchups and thank goodness Cash is back. The one that has me concerned is the Zimmermann/Stults rematch. All the Nats pitchers are RHPs, which means Deno will most likely not start in this series.

Game 1:
• Roark is coming off a solid start allowing only 1 ER on 7 hits and 2 BB in 7 IP against the Rangers. He has a 5.65 road ERA. But, that is primarily dues to two bad starts in which he allowed 5 and a season high 7 runs. He has a 1.93 ERA in 9 of his 11 starts. Last April he pitched a 3-hit, 9-inning, complete game shutout against the Padres Padres.
• Ross, who has an astounding 1.54 home ERA, is coming off a solid start against the ChiSox allowong 1 ER on 5 hits and 3 BB in 6 IP. He has allowed only 1 ER in 5 of his last 6 starts and has a 1.92 ERA in 9 of his 12 starts. He will be facing the Nationals for the first time this season.

Game 2:
• Treinen has pitched in 6 games but only have two starts. In one of start he gave up 2 ER on 4 hits and 5 BB in 5.2 IP in Pittsburgh. The other he allowed no ER (3 unearned) and 7 hits in 5 IP against the Dodgers. This will be the first time he will face the Padres.
• Cashner is returning from the DL and is the Padres best pitcher. He has allowed more than 2 ER only once in 9 starts when he surrendered 4 ER on 7 hits in 6 IP in Milwaukee back in April, but has a 2-5 record due to no run support. Minus that one bad start, he has a 1.93 ERA. He also has a 1.67 home ERA. The last time he faced the Nats, he allowed only 2 ER.

Game 3:
• Zimmerman is coming off a solid 5-hit 8 IP outing against the Phillies. He has given up more than 3 ER only three times this season and has 2.14 ERA in 9 of his 12 starts. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 IP in a Padres win last April.
• This will be the second time Stults will be facing Zimmerman. Last time he allowed only 2 ER on a whopping 10 hits in 5.1 IP. He had a rough outing against the ChiSox allowing 4 ER on 5 hits in 6 IP. He has a 6.48 ERA in his last 3 starts. He has allowed more than 3 ER in 4 starts and has a 3.18 ERA in 8 of his 12 starts this season. He is the least effective of the roation.

NL West:   Mets at Giants  •  Dodgers at Rockies  •  Braves at Dbacks

GO PADRES!

Also nice to miss Strasburg although Zimmerman always seems to shut us down(who doesn't lately huh) and Roark did the same last time we faced these guys.

I'd like to see at least two hits tonight. Or am I being overly optimistic?

Extremely optimistic, since the Padres don't play till tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I'd like to see a ball hit out of the infield, preferably for a hit

Tonight, I'd like to see the Spurs beat the Heat

Not a great start.  At least we have our first hit that reached the outfield grass in a few days

Lets hope the Nats get tired running around the bases, and the Padres are just resting for tomorrow.  I am going to the game and cant sit through another game like today

I don't know if the Padres can win the game but you would think they are due to score at least two runs.

Re: Washington Nationals @ San Diego Padres (June 6 - 8)

I've never seen a team this bad on offense. Never. They need to have an open house meeting where fans can walk through the clubhouse and scream at these guys for being so awful. I know they're trying. I know they aren't happy with how things are going. But Jesus Christ, something has to wake these guys up. None of our players are all pro, but they also aren't anywhere near this bad. Career .260 hitters don't wake up at age 29 and suddenly start hitting .170. It is so, so frustrating to watch.

Mario Mendoza could be our three hole hitter!

Ben, I say you're going to the only game we have a shot at winning in this series.

Re: Washington Nationals @ San Diego Padres (June 6 - 8)

Tanner Roark has had 12 starts this season. In those 12 starts, he has struck out 61 batters. 31% of those have been Padres. Take away his two starts, against the Padres and his 2.91 ERA inflates to 3.72. His 61:18 K:BB ratio deflates to 42:17. His WHIP goes from 1.05 to 1.23. I bet he wishes he played in the NL West.

Re: Washington Nationals @ San Diego Padres (June 6 - 8)

This offense is so bad they could only muster up 3 measly hits. They couldn't do anying off the Nats Detwiler came in the 9th with a 5.01 ERA and a .316 BAA. Black needs to get off his right/lefty matchup thinking. It is clearly not working.

Many of the Padres seem to always be swinging down at the pitches which end up being chopped ground outs. Maybe it's time for a new hitting coach.

What with Ross? After throwing 1 bad pitch in the 1st inning, he had 4 solid innings and then felll apart in the 6th. He was all over the place include a hit by pitch run.

Let's hope Cash gets it done tomorrow.

The only upside if the Padres keep playing this way for the rest of the season is they will end up with first pick in next years draft.
