I can't congratulate the Yankees
They buy their way to championships, plain and simple. They don't earn them on the field. Honestly they're not a better team than us.

Re: I can't congratulate the Yankees
2 things that killed you guys: 1. Ryan Howard was a ghost most of the series 2. Joe Blanton Started Game 4 If any of those things were different maybe you woulda streched this to game 7. I dunno how can say we buy our way to championships etc, we havent won one since 2000 until tonight. We have alot of good players so do you guys, with a little more bullpen help you guys defintely have the lineup to be back to the world series multiple times. However, tonight give us some credit we won this series fair and square.

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
Yankee fan here, nice competitive series. Utley is ridiculously good. You guys have a solid team. One comment, Jimmy Rollins needs to shutup with his predictions. He made the entire Philly organization look bad.
Hope to see you guys there next year for the rematch!!

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
just cause the yankees haven't won since 2000 doesn't mean they don't buy their championships. if they didn't have the ridiculous amount of money that they have they wouldn't even be CLOSE this year. The yankees organization is close to the bottom half of the league on the way they operate. Why don't you give minnesota that much money and see how many more championships they win.. just saying
Good year...phillies got us again tip the cap to them. their a better team this year than last year. Things continue to look bright in la tho

They do pretty good with limited resources not all our players were big moeny signings. Posada, Pettite, Mo, Jeter, Gardner, Melky, Cirvelli, Pena are all from our system. Every team has signed players almost. Not every player can be from your minor leagues.

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
wah wah wah... Face it... the majority of any team's fanbase would take the Steinbrenner's as their owners in a heartbeat. Yankees aren't bad for baseball.. owner's that pocket there team's revenues and sell off their best players in a perpetual rebuild are. And believe it or not... its not just about throwing money around. Ask the Mets. And forgive me for not feeling sorry for poor suffering Dodgers.... surely if they only had money they would have won a title or 5 since 1988. The Dodger's have one of the biggest markets in baseball and have a $100 million payroll... As for the Phillies. Great series guys. You guys have a scarey team and accomplished a very hard feat in MLB (getting back to the WS as defending champs). Let's meet up again in 2010. 50 years is too long of a layoff between matchups

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
certainly everyteam signs players to fill holes. Yankees sign tex, sab, arod, burn, as major 1's. most teams couldn't afford 1 of those players. don't tell me the twins couldn't do better than the yankees with the same payroll cause they most certainly would. your crazy if you think the yankees are run as good as the twins. who do you have coming up in your farm recently? joba?? he might be alright..you guys are a little too cautious with him but i see him as your future mo... gardner? no he's fast but he's nothing special at all.. cabrera? i remember when the yanks tried to pawn him off for kemp like they were even,, well you saw how that turned out. pettite left and came back for i'm just throwing a random number of like 16 mil? something close to that. what are you trying to say? you didn't spend over 200mil on payroll this year?
Good year...phillies got us again tip the cap to them. their a better team this year than last year. Things continue to look bright in la tho

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
i wouldn't be a dodgers fan if we had steinbrenner as our owner. i'm a fan of the organization not the money behind it and the dodgers are one of the best at growing their players. we've had ups and downs since 88 but what team doesn't? right now we have a solid core of players ready to compete year in and out without having to sign 5 100 million dollar players. you guys are like the spoiled little girls that has their dad wrapped around their finger. 100 million dollar payroll is not cheap unless you compare it to the yankees. and i don't have to ask the mets because i saw you guys miss the playoffs completely last year and you had a higher payroll than the mets this year.. haha nuff said

Home Grown Yankees on 2009 WS Roster Jeter Posada Rivera Pettitte (debateable since he left in 2003 and resigned in 2007) Hughes Chamberlain Cano Cabrera (injured in game 5 and removed from roster for Pena) Gardner Robertson Coke Aceves Pena And Wang who was injured last year also came up through the Yankees system. And yes... Yankees missed the playoffs last year due to lack of pitching and injuries as well as two very good teams last year (Red Sox and Rays) were better than the 2008 Yankees. But no... Yankees are all mercenaries and never develop from within... They buy all their players. Greedy Yankees. Why dont their owner's pocket their revenue like every other team.

RE: I can't congratulate the Yankees
Storm justr a few points as a Phillies fan...you gus won the series as much as we lost it...I congratulate your team on the win...the reality of the rest of what you and Dodger are talking about is the same as any two sided coin..Having no cap in baseball is not good for baseball...but neither are team where the woners put nothing iinto wiining. So which comes first the chicken or the egg....The way I see it and it won't happen in my lifetime....is that baseball needs a hard capped ceiling and a hard capped floor. They do something very similar in football and it prevents owns from selling out and owners from creating ridiculous disparities in talent so that smaller market team can't compete...Some one in another post asked the question about giving the MN Twins the revenue stream to pay a 200M payroll and see how many championships they would win and that is a very valid point...you take Matsui, Rodriguez, and CC of this team and you are not only WS champs but you probably don't even make the WS...none of those guys is home grown..they are hired guns..infact none of those guys was even traded for so you didn't have to give up anything of then cash like the Phillies did with Lee. Bottom line is you guys have a great team but to pretend that you didn't buy it is really quite absurd... Congrats again on #27

I'll probably be ripped like my fellow Yankee posters, but congratulations Philadelphia. You guys were a very worthy opponent, and I think you guys have what it takes to go deep for the next 2-3 years. I've always rooted for you guys to beat the mets(almost went to a game at Citi Field to root for ya'll) and against the Rays last year and this series won't change that.

Re: I can't congratulate the Yankees
Yankee Fan here. Great series, guys! I never follow NL ball much, but I have to say Utley is amazing. Totally amazing. The man is like a greek god in baseball. Jayson Werth might be one too! The shots he hit out were huge. I really hope Philly can extend Cliff Lee. He was incredible throughout and could win a Cy Young for you next season. The Phillies have almost no competition in the NL. St. Louis, LA, Colorado, and maybe Atlanta, but none of them are a threat. I fully expect to see a repeat of this series next year! Good luck!
