Anyone anticipate any problems dealing with Scherzer from this lineup?

BigJ7489 wrote: Anyone anticipate any problems dealing with Scherzer from this lineup? Depends which version of Scherzer we see tonight. Same goes for Griffin. When Scherzer is struggling with command he can be tagged, and this is a pretty potent lineup.

With a nod toward BanditoB, hope the A's can steal one, bandit-like, tonight...

Why is Norris starting again? I see that he doesn't really have his own lefty/righty split but Kottras is much better versus rightys (769 OPS in 2012 versus 631 for Norris). Looks like Kottras is 0-1 with a K versus Schrezer and Norris has never faced him.

Kottaras is definitely the better offensive option against a RHP, but he's also a defensive liability. That's limited somewhat by the fact that Detroit doesn't run much, but I think the WP in Game 2 may have spooked them.

I see a problem already. Kottaras isn't catching, Norris is. Seriously, it is evident that Norris is the better defender. Neither one provides any offense to speak of, except for an occasional HR.

That may be, but Norris is the superior defender, including knowing how to block balls in the dirt better, which turned out large in the final game in Detroit. Kottaras may be a better at the plate vs. righties ... but not by much, which isn't saying much, really. Norris is also better at calling a game. So it's pick your poison. Metinks after Sunday's game, Melvin chooses to go with the guy who is better behind the plate.

An above-average backstop in the postseason is mandatory.

Both Kottaras and Norris are backup-caliber catchers. Kottaras shouldn't be in there vs. a LHP but, other than that you can flip a coin and it won't matter. I hope a starting catcher is high on the upgrade list for next year.
