Re: Gameday 8/20/14 - the dream infield game

any word on why donaldson is out of lineup? probably best hitter on team and an important game in a week with 2 days off already...hope he's not hurt

EDIT:

According to rotoworld:
"

Josh Donaldson is not in the Athletics' lineup Wednesday.

With Thursday's off day, the A's are giving Donaldson two days of rest in order to recharge the batteries. Alberto Callaspo is at the hot corner Wednesday."

Well, if Parrino doesn't strike out every AB he'll be an offensive improvement today...hopefully he can handle the hot corner at least adequately in JD's absence.

Parrino is playing short Callaspo is playing third today. To me with the lineup almost seems they are giving the game up

Donaldson hasn't been their best hitter since June.

Every single left handed batter and switch hitter on the roster is in today's starting lineup.  I don't think I've seen that before this year.

Who would you say has? his OPS of .810 in july and august seems very consistent with the year. He only really slumped in June this year from what I can tell from splits.

Repost from the other thread where you made a similar comment:

In a 34 game stretch from Jun 5-Jul 13 Donaldson hit .158/.210/.271/.480 across 143 PAs with an unreal .165 BABIP.  It was a horrible slump that was frustrating to watch esp when even his line drives were getting snagged with routine if memory serves.

Outside of that stretch, he's hit .286/.383/.537/.920.  Since the All Star break he's hit .290/.400/.505/.905 wit ha 19/27 BB:K ratio.

Let's stop pretending Donaldson is still stuck in a slump.  He's had 1 rough month in the last 13 months of games played across parts of 3 seasons.  He's a superstar.

I think you have this strategy figured out. Wheeler has AWFUL splits.

vs left handed batters 276/.368/.409 63K 39BB

vs right handed batters 215/.288/.304 82K 23BB

I'm starting to understand this lineup a bit more. Putting in ALL lefties makes Wheeler a very pedestrian pitcher whereas he dominates RHB pretty well. The most notable is that he has trouble finding the strike zone against LHB. I've gone from not liking benching donaldson to loving it. If they bring in a lefty later in the game to get a key out, the A's have Norris and Donaldson both locked and loaded on the bench to crush a lefty.

You gonna believe your lying eyes?  Or the stats?  Donaldson has been the A's best hitter since June, by WAR and by OPS.

This is their standard lineup against RHP, except for Donaldson having a rare day off.

Except for Sogard getting benched briefly, they almost always start all of their LHB against a RHP.

Wheeler has been pitching really well for the past month.

Gotta sweep. Split at home not acceptable!

You know, I wasn't going to say anything, but rmoto's smile has also been disguised.

Re: Gameday 8/20/14 - the dream infield game

I never said Donaldson was still in a slump I just said with the eye test, he looks like a different batter than he did earlier in the year. He doesn't seem as confident at the plate and appears scared or relucant to pull the trigger sometimes like the last few games where he is standing there looking at third strike when people are on base. You don't do that.

Right now in a key moment I feel I would rather have Reddick or Vogt up there right now.

I agree with that and with the Angels playing tomorrow night in Boston and then flying to Oakland we have to use all the advantages we are getting to our advantage.
