I'd like for an As win, an anacrime loss with the addition of their starter getting removed at inning two and for this thread to not end in a slap fight.

Oh and for moss to lay down a freaking bunt to the left side

Seems reasonable.

and for this thread to not end in a slap fight.

Deal-breaker.

I would like to see the middle of the order produce which they haven't consistantly done in a long time. I would also like to see Nerd Power get another homerun

But most of all, I would like to see the A's win three in a row for the first time since the break

Arm cocked and hands open.

If it's gonna happen, might as well be in the beginning

Been keeping track of that myself this year.

AL East: 20-12

AL Central: 14-10

AL West: 27-20

NL East: 7-1

NL West: 3-1

We have struggled a bit vs. the central this year but would like to see that AL West record be better this year hopefully we can push it to 10 or more games above 500 for the season. We do have 7 games against the Angels this month coming up so I really think if we can win 7 of those 10 that can make a statement for the A's going into September.

I wonder if coaches even teach or work with their plays to try to hit against the shift. We had one coach I think wanted to outlaw teams being able to shift or something like that.

From Baseball Prospectus:

[T]here were 40 bunts against the shift in 2012, and 50 in 2013. Of those 90 bunts, 56 led to hits, so you can see why the bunt is so smart: At that success rate, it makes sense for any hitter who can get a bunt down to do so with the bases empty, and the worse the hitter and the emptier the left side of the infield, the better a play it becomes.
......
[T]he math suggests that it makes sense for an average hitter to attempt a bunt with third base open as long as he has a >=40 percent chance to get it down; and the more common the shift is, the more worthwhile it becomes for a hitter who hasn't had to do it before to invest the time necessary to become a competent bunter (as extreme pull hitter Brandon Moss did this spring).

http://www.baseballprospectus....articleid=23950

And from the linked article about Moss:

``The way they shift against Brandon, if he bunts a ball to the third base bag, it's going to be a double,'' manager Bob Melvin said. ``I think it's something we should have addressed before this. He wants this and we'd like to see him do it. It could open things up for him.''

Despite his one jaw-dropping batting practice bunt, Moss is not yet comfortable with the process. He tried it Monday and found ``it was just terrible.''

Guys who want to ban the shift are probably the same fuys who want you to stop trying to score in a blowout and not bunt during a no hitter. Ya know, someone who is anti-competition. They should go play intramurals.

In basketball there are "zone busters" who shoot over the zone, forcing the defense to play man-to-man.

In baseball, a shift buster can hit over the zone, or hit the other way to the open spots.  Which works will depend, I assume, on the skills of the particular batter.  Some should bunt, some should blast away.

They're facing Trevor May? Kid making his MLB debut? Isn't this one of those situations where the A's make the pitcher look like Pedro Martinez?

Re: Gameday 8-9-14 Three in a Row is a Good Thing

Since about Wednesday Minnesota beat writers and such have been saying it was going to be May tonight, and if Milone is brought up by the Twins it won't be until the second week of August to save that year for arbitration for him

For me I think everyone should know how to bunt no matter if you are a quick hitter or a monster home run hitter because you never know when you are going to need it.

Also Chris Christie and his family is going to be at the Coliseum tonight, I guess while on vacation in California he is trying to see the different ball parks there is and tonight its Oakland

Or claim that there is no money for schools and police while subsidizing and giving grants to political party friends to the tune of 100 mil dollars to help "small businesses"
