I wish there were a way to make Norris an everyday player and slot him into the 5th spot.

Norris has a 1.029 OPS against LHPs.  We tend only to see him against lefties, so we are seriously impressed.

As a catcher, he needs rest and platooning him seems a good way to do that.  And if you put him in the lineup against righties, you lose a good left-hand bat.

Re: Gameday 8-8-14 Lowrie Returns!!!

I think we know that but this is also what drives people's nuts about Melvin's platoons. The platoons have worked for the most part for the A's but at the same time it drives people nuts.

And the only way to make those stats better is to get people some at bats to have a chance to lift them. Also drive people nuts that since Gomes got traded to the A's he has only started two games and played in four games. And yes those numbers come into play again but still something that drives the fans nuts I think.

But on the brighside we can use Norris as a pitch hitter if it comes to that.

Why would fans be driven nuts by putting players in a position to succeed?

Because most fans don't see the points of platoons. They looks at the stats and say why isn't Norris starting he is a hot hitter instead you are starting someone who hasn't been hitting. They traded for Gomes but they aren't playing him.

And I am included in that somewhat sometimes, if someone is hot or doing well I want to see them in the lineup no matter who is pitching. Me right now I probably rather see Norris on the field right now no matter who is pitching.

I know the rationale, it's obvious and the stated A's approach.  But I'm willing to bet that Norris vs righties is a better hitter than most the lefties in tonight's lineup.  Though we'll never know.

No offense, rmoto, but I'm glad you do what you do instead of managing the A's!

After losing the first game with Greinke starting, Dodgers bounce back to win 3. Good they were more confident than their fans. :)

I think there's a tendency for many of us to underestimate our own players and overestimate other teams'. We see our guys day in and day out and we remember every single time they pop up with the bases loaded. Then we see an equivalent player on an opposing team come through once in that situation, and we go, "SEE?! We need CLUTCH guys like that, not the chokers we have now!"

The truth of it is, every player kinda sucks. Baseball is hard.

I know Lowrie is 5th between Moss and Reddick because hes a switch hitter but I still dont like it.

Guaranteed that at least once tonight Moss gets walked to get to Lowrie, and Lowrie ends the rally.

The platoons are why this offense has scored so many runs this year. It is a collection of slightly tarnished bats that get shiny when placed in best position to succeed.

Suzuki hitting .307 in 85 games. Pretty small sample size compared to 7 years of sucking

If every player kind of sucks and I suck more than Mike Trout....that means I deserve $100,000,000!
