Would prefer Norris catching, Jaso DH, Callaspo on his ass.

Sort of a disgusting looking lineup, can't wait for Coco to get back. And Gentry. Disappointed we haven't upgraded at 2b yet. Cespy was a huge loss.

Yawn...go A's.

Isn't the lefty Vargas going for KC? If so, why no Gomes in the lineup?

Obviously not...or Norris, Gomes, Punto would be in the lineup. They clearly got a righty going.

He is suppose to be activated for tomorrow's game. Tonight it is Jeremy Guthrie for the Royals.

In fact:

Friday: Jeremy Guthrie vs. Sonny Gray

Saturday: Jason Vargas vs. Jon Lester

Sunday: James Shields vs. Scott Kazmir

Interesting with the new rotation looks like Kazmir is #5 starter

Until Vogt's foot heals pretty much we are playing with two catchers right now and sorry to lose you as a fan because of one move

Lose me as a fan? Lol. Not gonna happen. Sorry I'm not all rainbows and unicorns anymore, because I think Billy is repeating old mistakes.

I was BORN AND RAISED an A's fan and I'm going on 30 years old. I made it through the Tartabull Van Poppel days. Got the logo tattooed on my arm and certainly won't stop rooting for this team any time soon.

Those of us who were around to see Canseco turn into Sierra turn into Tartabull turn into Pedro Munoz were way less fazed by yesterday's trade.

Oh, and the only reason I haven't tatted the logo on myself somewhere is I know somebody'd screw up the A and it'd bug me for the rest of my life.

It just sounded like you were done with this year and the team. My mistake........the old logo or the new one?

Just the classic A's logo. The yellow outline has faded completely, gotta get it touched up soon.

I like you so much for getting that logo, was hoping it was that one. I miss that one.

I was just saying with how the put the rotation coming out of the break with Hammel pitching second.

I think that was in order to give gray and Chavez more rest.  Plus Kaz pitched in the ASG, so he recieved a couple more days rest as a result of Hammel pitching 2nd.  Certainly not because he is the #2 guy.

I Wonder if this lineup, without Crisp and Cespdes, would even reach scoring position in 9 innings against the Tigers front 3.

That lineup does look pretty wimpy without Cespedes.  I was thinking maybe Barton could replace the production?  I mean he was a 5 WAR player not too long ago, solid D at 1st, great OBP skills.

Thanks. Could have sworn I read Vargas was tonight, hence my confusion. And as for our rotation, I probably wouldn't read too much into who's #5 or whatever.....people are getting juggled with Lester's arrival. I just hope we win the division by enough games to line us up how we want for the ALDS.

Re: Gameday 8-1-14: First of 17 in a row & New Era?

That would be helpful.  And what do the A's get for winning the division and having the best record?  Avoiding a one game playoff, that's it.

I've long thought in order to do more justice to regular season accomplishments in the wake of the wild card (and a 2nd wild card) either one or two teams should get a bye from a first round series; all games should be at the home of the team with the superior record; no 5 game series, only 7; no more than one day off in a series; 7 and 9 game series; or a combination of those things.
