Interesting to see Jaso catching after he was removed yesterday with a knee issue. I'd rather see him dh with Norris catching.

Also coco only one game this series? Is he nursing something? I know his neck hurt a while ago but is it still a problem? Almost rather dl him to be fresh than see him playing 2-3 games a week.

What isn't he nursing? He has the neck issue and then also has or had a leg issue. But at the same time, he is only hitting .224 this month for the A's and has been held hitless in the series I believe. So if the other outfielders are hotter right now, you have to play them especially in a pennett race.

However Jaso is knee was irritated which could have been an equipment issue because he felt a lot better after the game.

You could make the argument that playing him only twice or thrice a week in the heat is what is going to  keep him fresh for a more robust run later, currently banged up or no.  As the A's have an abundance of OFers, it's a luxury they can exploit while theoretically avoiding more serious injuries with less playing time.

And they do have a very tough 6 games coming up against Royals and Rays. So if they can keep him fresh for those games and with all the outfielders we have now, I think the A's should take that chance.

Also - this game is on late because of the Texas heat?

Yup. During July and August many Sunday's Ranger home games are going against the ESPN game of the Week because of the heat.

So much thinking the A's might be able to put some distance between themselves and the Angels coming out of the break.

Unless the Tigers come from behind, A's absolutely have to win tonight to keep this at 2 games. Don't want to go only one ahead going into Houston

Yeah, apparently it's over 100F there right now.

It was 99 when the game started last night I think.

Yup. Street closes it out striking out Cabrerra. They won't go away!

The Tigers didn't face Weaver, Wilson or Richards in any of the last 3 games and scored a combined 2 runs. Great job guys!

Suffice to say the Tigers are completely worthless until they play the A's.

It doesn't get below 100 until midnight where I live. It can be brutal for sure running around in the heat. I am always amazed to see kids running around in football pads in the summer preparing for fall football.

I think some people have to start admitting that the Angels are for real and will continue to be a thorn in our the A's side and putting pressure on the A's for the forceable future. To stay in first right now A's have a slim margin of error.

I don't think anyone doubts the Angels at this point. This could be the 1993 NL West race all over again (with the A's as the Braves, of course).

There are some still doubting them, saying once they started facing the tougher teams, they would fold quickly.

But wasn't it that year the Braves made a late first half and second half run to win the West? If I remember correctly that is what it was so the Angels would be more like the Braves in that situation.

We really have to avoid that one game playoff at all costs.

What is it with Jaso going after pitches early in the count?

And Cespedes strikes out once again on a pitch low and away.

Vogt and Moss get on but A's can't do anything else.

0-0 after top of the first.
