In the meantime, Moneyball is on TV to help kill the hours until gametime. I'm sure most of us own the DVD, but it's nice not to have to pull it out.

What is it about this movie that keeps me fighting back tears the entire time? The orgy of green and gold, the sound of Bill King's voice, the emergence of Chad Bradford, the rags-to-riches story of Scott Hatteberg, the STREAK, the dynamic between Billy and his daughter....

I'm not even a big movie guy, but literally every single thing about this movie is awesome.

Or could it be crying from the bad acting?

Perhaps the bittersweet ending (my wife, a non-baseball fan, found it depressing).

why bring up parrino, who has been hitting fairly well at AAA, to sit on the bench while we all know that sogard won't do jack.

This lineup looks shitty without Coco.

Beane needs to get another bat.  too many sub .250 hitters.  compare that to the angels.

if A's plan to have world series dreams they will do or die with cespedes, donaldson, moss. the lack of power in recent weeks is due to their inconsistency

How many pitchers do they have under 3.20 ERA? Or 4.00?

This is ugly and a little boring.  14 straight innings without a run.  Really without much of a threat of a run.

The a's have a superior pitching staff to the angels.  Are you somehow using that to refute the a's need for another bat?

Not an overreaction....Angels can hit...much better lineup...difficult to pitch to....who scares you in the A's lineup? LAA pitching can be suspect but they are starting to put it together...and over the rest of the season they will continue to pit up runs when most games for the A's its a struggle.

Re: Gameday 7-12-13 Game 16 of 17 in a row...

Take away his excellent game vs. the feckless Giants, and Chavez has been extremely hittable the past several starts. 9 hits and 2 walks so far tonight (5 innings), 8 hits and 4 walks in Detroit (5 innings), 6 hits and 3 walks in Miami (5 innings). He's not getting very deep in games....but his struggles are mainly on the road.

On a positive note, Pomeranz with a nice start tonight in SAC, limited to 4 innings, but only gave up one hit (a HR) and struck out 7. He should be ready after the ASB. Tommy Milone ready now.

Re: Gameday 7-12-13 Game 16 of 17 in a row...

The A's are still a team with 58 wins and a +146 run differential. They do have the second-best team in the league behind them, but this chicken-little crap after a 1 1/2 games is premature. Let's see what happens after the All-Star break.
I do hope the FO is quick to juggle the top two Sacto starters with Hammel & Chavez if the latter two have one or two more lackluster starts...assuming at least one of them isn't traded by the end of the month.
