To me Gray's slump mirrors Lowrie's.  Neither look that bad while playing and are getting some decent results on field, but overall numbers not showing it.

Two batters into the game, Gray has struck out both but at least according to Game tracker a little inconsistant strike zone so far.

21 pitch first inning for the Rangers pitcher, a two out double from Cespedes but he is left stranded.

0-0 after 1 inning.

Something's different about Cespy these days. It's like that throw gave him swag. He's starting to look like an upper echelon player.

Sonny appears to have some control problems early on but he has retired all six hitters he has faced on only 21 pitches.

a single by Norris but he is stranded at first.

0-0 after 2 innings.

However Tepesch has thrown 39 pitches through 2 innings so they are making him throw a lot of pitches.

Gray's control better in the third inning did give up a single but that is it.

After three Gray's line: 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K's and 31 pitches thrown

Only way out of a slump is to keep hitting.

RBI double from Jaso, RBI single from Donaldson but strained two runners.

2-0 A's after three innings.

Rangers pitcher has thrown 62 pitches through three innings.

Re: 6-18-14 Series win Edition II...

The reason I was skeptical that a "day off" for Donaldson was absolutely essential was because I didn't see how sitting and stewing would improve his approach or mental state. Small sample size, but when I failed at something, I wanted to get right back at it. Nothing is universal, but I'd think a lot of people are like that. I'm sure elite athletes want to play their way out of it, not "sit there and think about what you've done."

I don't care about swag or what he "looks like".  The numbers show he still has an OBP barely above .300.  Perfect example of a player whose perceived value will be higher than his actual value.  Trade him during the offseason.  We won't be able to afford to extend him.

For some people getting a day off works but for others it doesn't work. I think Donaldson might be getting more comfortable at the plate again.

Gray gives up a single and double in the fourth but strikes out two and doesn't give up a run.
