Players losing faith in fans

Jane Lee @ JaneMLB 2m

Donaldson said his perception of the A's fan base has changed because of the booing.

Great, kill the only thing we had going for us, that being the relationship between fans and players. Kill that and there's even less reason to want to play here.

Re: Players losing faith in fans

Good for the players. Doolittle yesterday commented that Johnson has gotten the shaft from "Game 1..Game 1!!", and made the comment about spending the off-season telling the new guys how great the fans were - only to have this crap happen.  Lowrie echoed the thoughts.

They're sticking up for their teammate, and I'm glad to see it. The players have talked often about how the fans have been the 26th man over these last two years. Well, the comments we've heard the last couple days indicate the players no longer feel that way. I hope the fans doing the booing get the message and take it to heart, because it will  continue to have a negative impact in that clubhouse going forward.

Booing our own guys is classless, lowlife crap. To those A's fans who have nothing else in their life to bring them joy other than booing our own players: knock it off already, you A$$Holes

God dammit. I guarantee it's all the bandwagon/uneducated fans jumping on board lately. You know, the ones who booed the Monta Ellis trade and Lacob.

I am on the side of not booing players, personally. Unless it's the other team, he'll yes I want to psych them out.

But my own team? The guy who I need to bounce back in tomorrow's game? Nope.

It's too long of a season, and baseball is not new to me.

Booing him from game 1 was just plain ridiculous.  You can clearly see it's gotten to him in his home/road splits.  Though, honestly, I don't want a guy on this team that is so mentally fragile about being booed at home that he pitches so terribly.

I don't blame the players in the least.

I'm frustrated because the only thing this team has going for it is the player-fan relationship and I felt from Game 1 when Johnson was being booed that it would put a strain on that.

And now that it looks like it might actually be happening?

Not cool.

Stop. Booing. The home team.

Two different arguments and I agree on both.

He hasn't performed well and hasn't shown he deserves to play. And if can't hack it mentally I'd rather that spot go to someone who can.

But booing your own players is counterproductive

If he didn't suck so much he wouldn't get booed. Stop blaming the fans for his own crappy performance.

Re: Players losing faith in fans

I'm sure it is the same "A's fans" who seemingly boo every former A's player when they come to town on an opposing team regardless of how he departed (trade, free agency, waived).  And when guys like Josh Donaldson and Sonny Gray leave as free agents these same "A's fans" will probably criticize them for their lack of loyalty.
It is sad because the perception this group of players had until now seemed to have been that while the fans may not show up in the numbers as in other cities they were knowledgeable, loud, and totally supportive.   So much for that myth.

Johnson hasn't been good. At all. And he makes a ton of money. And he was chosen over Balfour who was a lot of fun. And useful.

if the man would pitch better the fans won't boo. If he can't handle booing what can he handle.

Balfour pitched great, then lost it in game 4 last year with Victor Martinez.

I'd prefer my players be mentally stable where they want to be loved and cheered for. Not hated and booed.

Again, we aren't defending his performance nor are we blaming fans for it.

It's just what I said above, this team and these fans have a unique relationship that makes this team fun despite the front office drama and even the mere illusion that it's being threatened sets me off.

How much is he being boo'ed as he jogs to the mound? Seems to me it all comes after he sucks.

As Doolittle pointed out Johnson has been getting booed since his first game and has been ever since.  I am sure that is what has been most disturbing to the players and is what I am sure gives them an irreparably jaded view of the fans.    Why fans would want to go out of their way to make it difficult for one of their own players to succeed as well as to alienate the other players is beyond me.

lol @ the players cant take booing. toughen up.

maybe this is why A's cant get past first rd of playoffs so many times

johnson is garbage and 2nd highes player on team and replaced a fan favorite. He deserves every boo, i hope he has nightmares of it until he pitches like most fans expected he would

The booing is pretty lame, but then again Johnson has been pretty terrible... I'm conflicted.

Yep. Hate hero worship, can't do no wrong, why criticize, it'll work out. Message board complaints are okay, but In person, that's awful.

That guy gets booed when he blows game after game after game. We could have been 162-0.
