Hopefully, the Colon from earlier this season shows up.

Sorry Moss. Based on past performance, the A's have a 100% chance of winning with their all righty lineup.

Disclaimer: Future performance may be better or worse than past performance. Results will vary and wins are not guaranteed.

Yea bummer. Considering a couple of his homers in Detroit were against LHP I'd give him some run against lefties. Probably better than Choice at this point.

Yeah, don't care for benching Moss but, he does have a real platoon split. But, when he's hitting well, I'm inclined to just roll with it.

I love seeing Choice in there again. Rather see Moss over Young, but well...

With Coco DHing they are unequivocally benching Moss for Choice, straight up.  Can't say I'm too keen on it during Moss's hot streak, even if Keith Law or TangoTiger (or whoever) don't think they exist.

Oh well, it's not like Moss won't play tonight. It's always a nice option to PH him in a high leverage situation late in the game.

Hot streaks exist, they just aren't very predictive of future production (there's no way to know which day the streak ends).

I'd rather see Choice in there purely for entertainment purposes. Not that watching Moss sucks, but Choice is the new toy and I'm happy to see him getting the AB's. Hope he gets a hold of one.

Kind of surprising though, didn't Coco get banged up a bit yesterday? Good to know he's feeling good enough to play.

Yeah, but Coco may have to just hit home runs to avoid having to run on that legbiggrin

Choice is the new toy... but Melvin also has an agenda to see how Choice performs. The objective is to win as many games as possible, and to do that the manager needs to know what he's got.  Choice certainly didn't stink in his first game, so it will be nice to see if he's a real contributor.

Brandon will be back in the lineup tomorrow with an easy throwing RHP by the name of Darvish.

It is easy to predict- the streak ends when the player gets benched. confused

You don't often see a guy win player of the week and not start for the next two days. I probably would've just moved Mike to CF and rolled with a Cespedes, Choice, Moss outfield. Chris Young shouldn't be taking ABs from anyone...

This is definitely something to remember.  I'm still adjusting to platoon thinking, even though our favorite club is on the forefront of utilizing the idea.  You have to think of a season, in some respects, as a procession of linked games; when they end or begin, in limited respects, becomes sort of irrelevant.  In kind, whether you're starting isn't as significant as we think of it in the mainstream description of sport.  You might be getting in the game in the 5th inning, and then starting the next game and playing until the 5th inning in that game.  You just played 9 innings of baseball - but it feels unfamiliar if you don't recontextualize it.

Nice explanation.

Another thing I've had to reconsider pretty seriously is the value of flexible defenders in a radical platoon lineup. So guys like Sogard, Lowrie and Young (even throw in Moss for 1B/OF) and good old Rosales make the platoon style possible by playing multiple positions adequately (and being willing to do so).

THERE is an example of how OF defense matters.  A mediocre CF and the game is 2-0 Rangers right now.
