All-Stars - A's Snubbed

I am watching the Fox All-Star Game Selection show and they just announced Bartolo Colon as the only A's All-Star. Yes, Colon deserves it and, yes, the All-Star game is a sham, but I still would have liked to see the A's get some respect. Donaldson anyone?

What a joke. Absolute disrespect directed towards The A's.

Just a shame Donaldson's not an All Star but not a shock either.

The A's should have 4 before they have 1

RE: All-Stars - A's Snubbed

Update: No A's in the final vote either. The American League final vote only consists of pitchers and Balfour is not one of them. I haven't watched the All-Star game for probably over ten years, but I was going to watch this time around thinking that the A's would finally have a good showing.

Matt Vasgersian at the end of the broadcast: "I wasn't going to do this, but Donaldson doesn't even get on the final vote?!"

Im was happy to see Vasgersian call BS. Even though he is an A's fan:)

Zobrist goes instead of Longoria

Verlander?

I would've liked to see them keep more 3b's, but Cabrera is a no brainer, and Mchado is pretty special. WAR likes Machado better for his glove. There is no doubt Machado is elite defensively, but Donaldson is pretty damn good too, and Donaldson's bat has been far better.

I'd guess that if you swapped the stats of Machado and Donaldson, Machado still would've gotten the vote though due to age/popularity.

Oh well, more fuel to the fire. Not just for Donaldson or Balfour, but the whole team. Been as good or better than any team in baseball over the past calender, still get no respect.

1 all-star. Again. We really are the good guys though.

Steve Delabar is on the final vote and not Balfour? For serious?

Re: All-Stars - A's Snubbed

The four 2b's and only two 3b's seemed strange to me.

I had a feeling Donaldson would get snubbed, but was really shocked to see Balfour not get a spot.

I dislike the all-star games though. I realize getting fans involved is important, but I will never agree with fan voting. As good of a player as Cal was, he was voted in to all-star games by name and there are always going to be players like that. I didn't even look to see if that happened this year.

RE: All-Stars - A's Snubbed

This is splitting hairs here, but technically Colon wasn't even originally named to the team. He was one of the injury replacements for Buchholz/Crain. How did Leyland get to name an All-Star team without an A on it? One of Buchholz and Crain should not have been allowed to be named to the team.

Re: All-Stars - A's Snubbed

Didn't the A's have some drama with Leyland and the Tigers this year or am I mistaken? No way this can be justified. I think I heard the managers also choose the final vote. Now way realistically you can argue Balfour and Donaldson shouldn't at the very least be in the final 5 vote -- even then I would've been shocked.

Leyland is senile and the AS Game is a joke. At least this gives our players another chip on their shoulder.

Named Colon so he won't appear (starts the Sunday before I believe) and they can name a replacement who will be Balfour. Standard procedure these days it would seem: name a starting pitcher that can't play, replace with relief pitcher that won't get in the game.

I did not think Donaldson would get in, based upon all the 3B available. Verlander gets in obviously on past accomplishments and not what he is doing this year. Of course, having your manager make the selections never hurts.

Balfour not getting in is very surprising.

RE: All-Stars - A's Snubbed

Donaldson getting snubbed over Salvador Perez, Torii Hunter, Nelson Cruz, Ben Zobrist, and Alex Gordon is pretty ridiculous. They can't take a 3rd 3B in one of the best years for 3Bs and snub an AL MVP candidate for a 3rd catcher and to have 6-7 outfielders makes no sense.

Iwakuma is having an excellent year, but a 2nd Mariner over a 2nd Athletic is pretty ridiculous too. Balfour is deserving not just to make the team but to close the All Star game if the AL has the lead.

Not surprising though. More fuel to their fire hopefully.

*Zobrist is the lone rep from a bad team, one of the two Royals would of had to be on the roster...Cruz and Hunter over Donaldson is a joke....and you know damn well they'll have Rivera close it

*in my fuming I missed Longoria...makes it that much worse

Phuck 'em, I say. A's need no institutional approval. Brewers got 4 All-Stars, and where are they headed?

I haven't watched since Giambi's show at the HR derby, and don't see any reason to start now. The real national stage starts in October.
