Sounds good. Anyone got any scouting reports handy?
It's a Sicilian Message. It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes.

RE: A's close to signing Mexican League FA
A's loading up on MIF. Lowrie, Nakajma, Sizemore, Weeks, Green, Russell and this kid Lamas whos 2012 #s especially do look impressive granted it was in the Mexican League.
He'll likely begin 2013 at AAA SAC right? Question is who plays 2b? Weeks could be the odd man out after spring training considering he has options left unlike Sizemore but where does that put Green who'd you like to see play a full year at 2b in 2013 and see if he's that answer to that position long term. Good problem to have with too many players at a single position.

Re: A's close to signing Mexican League FA
I'd be a bit surprised if Lamas started in AAA. I don't think the competition in the Mexican league is nearly on par with the PCL or INT.
Looking through the Mexican league leaderboards from 2012, Lamas performance was definitely impressive for his age. Led me to a guy named Leonardo Heras who the Orioles recently signed. Heras was the only other hitter age 23 or younger that I found with a better track record than Lamas.

Wonder if this would spell doom for a Diaz signing. Maybe the A's got sick of waiting around for his clearance.
Interesting to see the performance spike last season. Wonder how real it is. The rest of his line doesn't look that impressive... not many homers, lot of CS. I'd like to see some video on him.

Re: A's close to signing Mexican League FA
I was going to mention the spike and then I noticed jclay beat me to it. He is still pretty young, last year playing as a 22 yr. old, so it is possible he had a breakout season. He doesn't walk much but, nor does he strike out much. A young middle infielder who makes consistent hard contact - assuming last year was a breakout year - is most welcome.

Played almost exclusively 2B in 2012 so I doubt he's a great defensive SS. Can never have enough middle infielders though.

So he is Lorenzo's brother we can assume. Son of Fernando?..Great, hope "he looks marvelous".

I love that one of the best hitters in the Mexican League last year was a 37-year old Mario Valdez.

Not sure how they resolve the controversy over Diaz's age. It might be that Diaz doesn't get signed till August, which is his disputed birthday.

Re: A's close to signing Mexican League FA
looks like AA/AAA depth, worth the risk, probably not much of signing bonus. its not like dusty coleman, josh horton, andy parrino are legit SS prospects themselves.

RE: A's close to signing Mexican League FA
Yeah it's been 4 days now and still no word on the signing becoming official. Not even a peep from the A's org themselves or any other baseball "sources" have mentioned it.

I know the A's have several signings pending with MLB on the international front. Not positive Lamas is one of them, but he might be. The organization can't comment until MLB approves the contracts.
