Not good, luckily we have a deep pen and some closer options in Cook and Doolittle.
Hopefully there wont be too much of this type of news this spring. Gotta stay healthy.

Again: this is not major knee injury, it's a meniscus tear. Only arthroscopic surgery. Balfour should be OK for start of season. Slusser, SF Chronicle.

And so it begins... I'm very worried about the health of the bullpen after how heavily they were relied on last year. At least two of Figueroa, Leon, Scribner, and Simmons will need to be big parts of this pen this year.

Well, I was wondering who would suffer the first early injury. Thankfully, it seems he'll be ready to go when the bell rings. And double thankfully, as alluded to by Bandito, Cook and Doolittle can probably handle it in the meantime.

(Kidding, people, just kidding... ) At least you didn't mention Breslow... As in "Oh No It's Breslow". That would of been really annoying.

RE: Balfour out 4-6 weeks knee surgery
Speaking of injured closers, anyone else see that Ryan Madson had a set back and won't be ready to start the year for the Bonemans? Counting on him seemed like a pretty big leap all along. Though I've seen his name more than once when media talk about the Angels improved bullpen. He'll only be 12 months from TJ at the start of the season. We'll see.

Re: Balfour out 4-6 weeks knee surgery
I'm wondering why Balfour did not get this problem repaired sooner than the start of spring training. Surely the athlete that he is would have suspected something was wrong while working out this winter. Anyone have an idea ?

Anyone have an idea ? according to balfour, the pain pretty much went away in the offseason and didnt interfere with his offseason work outs. pitchers also rarely throw off the mound in the off season. when the pain came back after a bullpen session, balfour figured this was something more than just soreness.
