A's interested in Hideki Okajima

I think this would not only be a good pickup for the A's pitching wise, but help Hiro settle in Oakland...Read it here from Susan Slusser..

He's hard to watch pitch because he does that head snap thing. He's got to have an amazing chiropractor just to get out of bed.

I'll take all the good players we can get.

I thought he had a chronic injury and that was responsible for his dropoff after 2010.  Though that doesn't appear so as I read he pitched well all of 2011 in AAA and 2012 in Japan.

A's should be interested in a 3B

The BringerOfRain doesn't think we need one.

The way Donaldson played the last two months, the A's would be foolish to not give him a shot as the every day 3B.  Not only was he fantastic, but he adjusted to the league adjusting to him after his initial hot streak.  That's an excellent sign that he can continue to produce well again in 2013.

This has been bugging me since like 2005.  I see people calling you "Oakman" all the time.  Is your handle Oak Man IA (like Iowa), or is it oakMANIA, like kleptomania, or megalomania. etc., which is how I've always read it.

Re: A's interested in Hideki Okajima

Oakman was my original handle, but I couldn't use it when scout took over fanhome, or maybe even before that when the site was known as baseball boards.com...The only reason I had in caps, because I didn't know how to navigate a keyboard so well, so it's a reminder to me on how clueless I was... I chose Oakmania because I play in a Beatle/McCartney tribute band, and I was born in 1964, when the Beatles came to America. So I combined Beatlemania with OAKMAN, and thus, Oakmania became my new handle.... My esteemed colleague, Zorch, was known as Greenmachine..

You are more than welcome, sleepingcobra..... I was hoping the A's were going to go after Koji Uehara instead, since he was a free agent this off season, but he chose to sign elsewhere. The A's came so close to acquiring him last season , that I thought the A's would have made an competitive offer for him this year. The A's could always give Okajima  MiLB contract and a invite to spring training, but he may want a 40 man roster spot in order for him to get to ML camp.

Agree Jclay, Donaldson impressed the hell out of me down the stretch, and I think definitely secured the everyday 3b job with a pretty long leash. He looks like he can hit for average, 15-20 HR power, and play good defense at 3b. That's not easy to come by. I see him as a possible Scott Brosius-type and I'm happy penciling him an as the starting 3b.

I think he desearves a shot ya, but 2 months is not a track record. Think you would want to have something in place if he regresses back to old Donaldson. Im not 100% sold that the hot corner is all wrapped up.

Doolittle, Blevins, Norberto and Okajima?

4 lefties in the pen?

RE: A's interested in Hideki Okajima

If they sign him to a non-guaranteed contract with incentives for making the roster, the A's could have Okajima in Spring Training to help with Nakajima's transition to the states even if he doesn't make the 25-man roster. I suppose he could be a 3rd lefty after Doolittle and Blevins, which would probably leave Norberto and Blackley out of a spot in the 'pen.

Anyone know if Norberto and/or Blackley have options remaining?

My guess is Blackley does not since he was DFA'd by the Giants, but that's a total guess on my part. But, Blackley is valuable because he can do both long relief and spot start.

Blackley is out of options; Norberto has one option year remaining.

Okajima has been officially released by the Softbank Hawks, so he can pursue a deal with a Major league team...Per MLB trade rumors

Sizemore is a pretty good fallback if Donaldson stumbles. He isn't in Donaldson's league defensively, but the bat is strong.
