Is Jaso going to be our starting C now? The guy has a monster .OBP. Also he was a monster on my autodraft team on MLB the show lol.
Hate to see us give up Cole though
How is Jaso's defense?

overhead MLB Tonight mention this at the very end and then saw Jane Lee's tweet. Don't like seeing Morse land in the AL but love getting back Jaso for only Cole. We have depth in pitching and now we've added depth at catcher. Gives time for Norris to develop as well with less pressure.

WOW. I was asking why Jaso wasn't a target instead of Kottaras last season, but I'm surprised he cost AJ Cole. He was just dealt last year for the forgettable Josh Lueke, now this year he commands a prospect with the kind of cache as Cole has? Very surprised. I can't say I was enthralled with Cole, nor am I sad to see less ABs for Kottaras or Norris next year... just seems out of line with value.
Oh well, happy to see the A's continuing to add to the Major League squad. Love the Jaso add to the lineup.

Wow. My first thought was to hate this, but I didn't realize how awesome Jaso was last year. The OBP looks great, but the defense cancels some of that out. I have to digest, but I think this is a pretty good "win now" move. |

Another WOW.... unless someone else of note is a part of the deal, the Mariners now have Smoak, Morales, Montero, and Morse for 1B/DH? I guess Morse can still play some OF, but they've got Ibanez, Saunders, Gutierrez, Bay, Thames, and Wells all looking at some time in the OF with Bay and Ibanez sure to take some time in the OF too. Maybe Montero really is going to start playing full time C.
Be interesting to watch... they could be a dangerous team with all that pitching.

McKinleyville HS, huh? I work there, and it's a 15 minute drive from where I currently live. Right up here in north Humboldt county.
Not sure how I feel about the trade, although after last season I was pretty insistent we should get help at catcher. I'm a big fan of Cole, but Jaso was impressive last season no doubt about it.
I'm guessing this means Kottaras is gone. Jaso looks like a platoon guy at catcher, can't hit LHP, judging by the stats. Doesn't have a great CS percentage either.
Happy to have Jaso aboard considering he's most likely an upgrade from Kottaras, but sad to see Cole go, to a division rival at that. Hopefully that doesn't come back to haunt us.

Will platoon with Norris I guess. Unless we bring in another half of that platoon and Norris goes to AAA
Worries about his defense...3rd in the league in passed balls and he played less than 110 games. Also struggles throwing out runners.
Seems like a pretty large risk. Hopefully it was well calculated and works out for us. I felt going into the offseason that catcher was the most important position on the team to upgrade, so at least we've got a good candidate against RHP now.

Really hate to see Cole dealt. Out of all the prospect the A's got in those three trades last offseason Cole was the one I thought that could have the highest upside.
I could really see this being sort of a Bonderman type scenario where it'll help the A's in the short term but I think 2-3 years from now Cole could be a very good SP in the bigs.

pretty bad to me. Would have been better giving up less and getting Morse.
I think AJ Cole is worth much more than that.

So the A's in the end traded Gio for two catchers in Jaso/Norris, Milone who I think is a solid #4, and Peacock?
IMO Peacock really needs to step up and become at least a solid #3.

Figured it was happening with Jaso being a lefty to go with Norris in the platoon. I like it. Bob certainly proved he could make platoons work last year. I like Cole, but the A's are in a win now mode and are deep with pitching and needed some more help at Catcher.
