no one elected to hall of fame.

Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Bagwell etc. should start their own museum together with Pete Rose, I bet it would draw more crowd.

leaving bonds and clemens off should draw a suspension from voting. blank ballots, or only jack morris is also suspension quality work.

BBWAA could sleep well tonight. Making a fading award less and less important.. and being the morale patrol in the process!

leaving bagwell and piazza off simply because others had issues is almost as embarrassing as letting bonds and clemens.
off.

that's taking the morale patrol to a whole new level.

The good news is that Jack Morris looks very unlikely to be elected in his final year on the ballot, as he barely inched forward this year.

The bad news is that Maddux, Thomas, Glavine, and Mussina join the logjam next year.  Maddux will sail in, and I think Thomas, Glavine, and Biggio all have good shots at induction.

5 blank votes, one for Aaron Sele. why do these people have a say in anything?

I'm really excited to see Maddux get in... not that there's any doubt... but I always loved watching him pitch... in my mind, he's the very definition of the guy who knew how to pitch.

I remember reading once that part of the book on Maddux was "Don't try to out think him -- you can't."

I can't say I understand BP's voting. If Clemens/Bonds gets in, why doesn't McGwire, Sosa or Palmeiro?

I have to say I'm glad Clemens and Bonds didn't get in. They basically got away with cheating until now.

I don't even care about this. What I do care about is how this stupid, antiquated group didn't unanimously vote Rickey into the HOF.

The GMs, who actually evaluate talent should be the ones voting.

It was one guy, probably the same one who put Sele on his ballot. He later apologized after looking at Rickey's career numbers and went, "oops." Of course, that just makes it worse.

Hell..... Dave stewart deserves to be in #HOF. Clemens couldn't beat him 99% of the time. Stewy was one of the best during his era. Any player that faced him would tell you, Stew was intimidating and dominate on the mound. IMO

Really? Bonds and Clemens were from a different planet compared to everyone else on the ballot. And they didn't cheat because steroids weren't banned.

Re: BBWAA lol 2013 edition

i didnt expect anything less from a group that voted Cabrera over Trout with that percentage.

bottom line is, these mighty powerful people who vote need to 1) learn more 2) step down 3) be fired from voting.

it's sad what a joke the BBWAA has become. The Piazza/Bagwell thing is probably the most disturbing though.

Re: BBWAA lol 2013 edition

I tend to agree that BBWAA has become a pretty embarrassing organization, at least when it comes to voting on player merits. Going back to something I said previously, it needs to be recognized that the strength of professional sportswriters is narrative writing about sports, not analysis. Voting on the merits of players should go to people who are more interested in how good the players were rather than on the stories about the players. Then the BBWAA writers can write the stories of whatever players they want (and I'd be happy to read them, because I do enjoy sports story-telling).

Leaving out steroids, McGwire, Sosa, and Palmeiro don't get in? Or is it okay to take steroids so long as you hit more than 70 home runs in a season?

Re: BBWAA lol 2013 edition

I actually think BP's voting is far too restrictive. Schilling and McGwire may not be "inner circle" Hall of Famers, but I can't see how they don't belong at all. Palmeiro, Walker and Lofton seem far too low in terms of percentage...they should be borderline like Martinez.

That said, at least BP got 7 deserving Hall of Fame candidates, which is 7 more than BBWAA.

Leaving out steroids, it's entirely reasonable to have none of those guys on your ballot.

Bonds, Clemens, Piazza, Bagwell, Schilling, Trammell, Walker, Raines, Biggio, Martinez.

Re: BBWAA lol 2013 edition

if the MLB is going to allow a bunch of bitter, out dating and misinformed sports writers play morale police and ignore what actually happened, the MLB should give back all the money made from that time period commish, owners as well that made off those players, and donate it all to charity.

Joe DiMaggio was not a 1st ballot hall of famer either.

Amazingly Ruth was left off 11 ballots.

Edited Ruth
