Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

Arizona might as well get another former Athletic on its team!

Too bad.  I liked having him and Amanda on the team.  Good luck to him.

2 yr/15.5 mill

seems reasonable price. so much for A's willing to spend money. first they low ball gomes, pass on a pretty fair mccarthy deal.

what happened to adding payroll and keeping team intact.

The grass is not always greener on the other side, but he's definately going to make some GreenBacks, I guess I'm happy for him???
I liked McCarthy but we just don't know if his shoulder blade would be good this week or the next. Maybe now we'll have enough cash to sign a SS soon??

RE: Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

Too bad he's a good pitcher when healthy, would've been nice to have him for the next season and two even if he made 25 starts, you knew most of those starts would've been quality ones.

Who is out there still that the A's can bring in as a veteran arm, can't believe they'll go into 2013 with the starting rotation as is even though it's pretty deep but very inexperienced. I think Braden is still available although he maybe more injury prone than both Anderson and McCarthy.

i think jeff karstens, jurjenns, or lannan could be back rotation fits but could probably pay them 4+ mill, yet probably pitch no better than a straily, griffin. probably not worth it

Also gotta believe the DBacks are on the verge of making a massive deal that could involve somebody like J.Upton and or a couple of their young arms as the reports are they're willing to deal Bauer, who at this time last year may have been the most untouchable pitching prospect in the minors.

Re: Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

Not worth it. Colon is a better value IMO, and we've got tons of young starting pitching talent.

Much rather see them let these guys go and use that money on shoring up SS, and hopefully making another big impact international signing, such as Abreu if he defects from Cuba. We easily replaced Gomes with a better player in Young, and starting pitching should be the last of our worries right now.

Good luck to McCarthy in Arizona. Good pitcher when he's healthy and a good guy. Had some short conversations with him on twitter, very personable.

Hell, just poach Tyler Skaggs or Trevor Bauer from the D-backs

Re: Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

Any chance at signing McCarthy disappeared when they traded for Young unless they were willing to settle for Parrino/Rosales at SS. I guess the question is, who is more valuable, McCarthy or Young?

Re: Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

maybe the A's could get a Bauer or Skaggs deal for Reddick.

Platoon Young/Smith in Rf. Wouldn't be bad selling high on Reddick.

If not, I'd like the A's to sign Marcum. Colon/Milone/Griffin are all 5th and 6th starters.

I don't think there is any question, Young is more valuable. Especially to a team that continues to crank out quality starting pitching from the minors, knows how to spot starting pitching talent, and has had serious troubles developing or spotting good positional talent over the bulk of the past 5 years.

We found McCarthy on the scrap heap. Billy will find another McCarthy on the scrap heap before long, that's just how he rolls.

Re: Brandon McCarthy to sign with Diamondbacks

Pathetic, going to miss him very much. Bad move for this kind of money. We found him off the scrap heap but he was an Oakland A through and through. This staff is weaker fo losing him. Should have let Colon go and signed Brandon. This team isn't commited to spending sh++t. Same azz garbage coming after a World Series run. Pathetic , cheap, crap!!devil
