Around The League Offseason Thread

I felt compelled after seeing The Giants reportedly offering Scutaro 3 years and $24 mil

Was anyone else laughing at that Pagan deal? Wrong side of 30, not a huge track record of success.....yeah, that's a Sabean signing, alright!

Yep Sabes is a genious just like all the gnats "fans" are popping off now. 60 million slated for those two players...awesome....and back loaded to boot...yes! Angel Rowand-Pagan and Marco Sanchez Scutaro says thanks.

This year or next this might be "good" for the team, maybe rolleyes. Let me know in year 3.

I was laughing at the Victorino deal w/Boston.  $39 mil for 3 years.  Yup, Boston has a lot of $ to spend now that they got rid of all their big contracts, but sounds to me like they're going to put themselves right back into that category.  Not that I care.confused

It's been heartwarming indeed to watch high-flyers such as the Bostons scramble to keep up with the Oaklands. If they think the likes of Shane Victorino et.al. is what it takes to close that gap, well... HAH!

I enjoyed the Boston signings too.

They had a ton of success in the mid oughts with Bill Mueller and David Ortiz being bargain FA that came out huge.  But these recent deals smack more of 90's Jesse Barfield type signings (I consider Bos and NYY to be same).

Arizona is baffling me. They give up CBY for Penny and now they are on verge of trading Bauer for Assdrubal. Seems odd. Agree on Boston. Unload a bunch of bad contracts only to add a bunch more long term deals for guys on wrong side of thirty.

If Bay had issues trying to hit at Citi Field, how is he gonna handle hitting at Safeco? SEA I don't think is done as they'll probably deal one of their young arms for another bat, maybe to land one of those young hitters from KC?

Re: Around The League Offseason Thread

i read kc is more willing to deal myers than butler.

I'd offer up parker or anderson for myers, no question. A's we know can produce pitching, thats not an issue. Find up and coming, potentially elite young hitters is.

trading parker may hurt in the short term, but youd still have anderson, colon, griffin, milone, straily, blackley plus werner/gray/peacock in AAA. Plus i wouldnt shocked if beane signs another short term vet sp if they lose mccarthy. Thats 8-10 deep in sp's that could be options in 2013.

KC looks to be win now mode and sacrifice some of their young hitters to improve their pitching. parker for myers should be discussed if it hasn't already.

I would do Parker for Hosmer straight up, or Parker for Myers and another good prospect.

If Seattle wants to do something they oughta consider dealing Jason Vargas to an NL team.  If you get what I'm sayin'.

Given the Angels re-amping their bullpen, unless the A's make a few good moves, they are the 3rd best team heading into the AL west next year.

Re: Around The League Offseason Thread

angels also lost hunter, haren, santana, walden and probably greinke

replaced so far with madson, hanson, burnett

right now the A's rotation is deeper and bullpen i'd say is comparable.

frieri, madson (coming off tj surgery), burnett, downs, jepsen, hawkins

balfour, cook, doolittle, blevins, neshek, norberto

Re: Around The League Offseason Thread

What exactly did the angels do to "re-vamp" their bullpen to leapfrog the A's?

Ryan Madson? A guy coming off elbow surgery?

Sean Burnett is a solid loogy but i wouldn't declare the pennant theirs with his acquisition.

You don't even know what the rangers are going to do this off-season so to jump the gun and say they are going to be better than the A's next year is ridiculous.

Please bring some facts with you instead of making absurd statements and pass them off as fact.

RE: Around The League Offseason Thread

i'd be worried about Madson's TJ if the year was 1968, with a whole year of Trout, and a fixed pen, i think they are better than the A's. Satana and Haren were pretty bad last year.

As far as Texas goes, they are better than the A's regardless of what happens, particularly adding profar and olt.
