A's should make a huge move for Stanton

Stanton for Cespedes, Choice, Cole, Peacock or Head.

Beane needs to get on that.

Re: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

That's a fair proposal for Stanton, and it still might not be enough. Stanton is one of the best players in baseball, just turned 23, and has the most friendly contract in the game. Barring injuries he's probably a 600 HR guy. By the time his service time comes up, hopefully the A's can have a new stadium and lock him up for the rest of his career.

Cespedes-Choice-Peacock-Cole or Head.

Nice way to come back. How does he have the most friendly contract in MLB when he has none?

He has no leverage right now, but he is not eligible for arbitration.

And by saying Beane needs to get on this, you are acting like you are discovering what is the most dynamic young player in the majors, playing for a team that is throwing away seasons with the player tweeting his issues with that. Every GM kind of knows this same thing.

Way to come back with ZPF 2.1. An inane time waste post.

I don't think Stanton will be traded until next offseason at the earliest due to all of the heat the Marlins are facing after their liquidation. I also think history has shown that the team giving up the boatload of talent for one superstar usually gets the bad end of the deal.

I went and looked at Giancarlo's line, he's a freaking stud.

I'd think about zfp trade a bit. It isn't crazy.

why not lesser deal for logan morrison

A's wanted him as a centerpiece to a gio deal

Cause we already have 4 quality OF. Stanton is a 5+ WAR stud, and likely an upgrade over any of our guys. Morrison not so much.

Marlins just dumped a load of salary, why would they want to add Cespedes' contract? They woukd probably rather have prospects anyway.

Re: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

The deal isn't unfair toward the A's. It actually is probably unfair toward the Marlins, as it trades quantity for quality. Considering it wouldn't save the Marlins any money with Cespedes included (and would be way too light on talent without him), the Marlins would definitely not do the deal, in my opinion.

It would be awesome to get Stanton. But it would probably take multiple blue chip prospects to pry him away from the Marlins.

Why exactly are the Marlins doing this deal? To add salary and dump talent? Cespedes being Cuban isn't enough, just as being Cuban isn't enough for the Marlins to want to put up with Escobar's crap (they started shopping him before the trade was even official).

Come on Beane, Parker and Cespedes for Trout then Reddick and Griffin for Harper. Otherwise you suck as a GM William.

Re: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

Stanton is a stud, and probably him and trout are the only players in baseball I would trade Cespedes for. Cespedes will eventually be the 2nd best CFer in Baseball at a very reasonable price for 3 more years.

To add more to the deal is a deal breaker. Did anyone not remember the A's record with and without Cespedes? People can talk WAR all they want, but my eyes tell me that Cespedes's impact on the game is huge. This has not been missed by other scouts and GMs.

The Marlins would jump on this offer. A straight up deal would be fairer but the Marlins are not interested in fair for someone they don't want to trade.

RE: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

The A's should be trying to get Stanton, if he's really available. But Cespedes > Stanton. Better hitter, similar fielder, better baserunner. It's no contest.

ZFP hated the Cespedes signing at the time b/c it didn't fit the A's window, and ever since has been bringing up Cespedes as just another chip in a massive trade for a name outfielder. If you went back and looked midseason, he probably proposed the exact same pieces in a move for Upton.

Cespedes is a top 10 player in baseball. You don't move a guy like that, you find ways to add talent around him.

That said, a deal around Choice and Cole for Stanton would be outstanding.

Good to see you back though zfp. The board is more interesting when you're around... even when you post insane illogical trades like this just to stir the pot.

Re: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

Cespedes is great talent, but Stanton is significantly better now, and has much, much more upside. He's a HOF talent who could hit 600-700 HRs health permitting. He's a simply generational talent.

No one outside of an Oakland fan would say otherwise.

I don't think Cespedes-Choice-Cole-Peacock is enough, but I wonder if a team with a 20 million dollar payroll, would try to make it up with their fanbase, and take a package with Cespedes headlining it.

Re: A's should make a huge move for Stanton

i have no attachment to any of the players mentioned, all have potential flaws that limit their upside, among the prospects.

cole unless he has a huge breakout and skips to AA, is probably 2-3 yrs away

head if at all is a 1b/dh type. peacock , choice struggled in 2012 after some expectations. if A's can flip any of them + a weeks/green for a legit superstar go for it.

i'm not even attached to reddick to be honest, he was atrocious post asb and has a flawed plate approach.
