Well, the writing was on the wall when the A's acquired Chris Young, there just wasn't going to be room for Jonny. I'm definitely a little bummed about this even if I think the A's upgraded with the addition of Young, Gomes was just meant to be an Athletic.

I believe the A's offer was a two year deal, don't know the amount, of course. But I'm pretty sure I read where Beane said they were talking 2 yr. deal. Anyway, I agree, it is a bummer. Gomes, Inge and McCarthy were significant leaders on this club. And that was huge. I can understand the bosox interest ... a team flying in multiple directions right now; apparently Ortiz can't do it alone.  |

A really hate to see Gomes go. oaklady is so right, Inge, Gomes and McCarthy are going to be hard to replace. Hopefully, the A's can resign McCarthy and maybe even bring Inge into camp...

red sox 2 yr/10 mill for gomes, that seems more than A's were willing to spend. slusser says twice more than A's offer in september

I wish Johnny nothing but the best in Boston. He'll get a cheer from me when he comes to town.
Nothing he ever does will dampen the memory of his contributions to the 2012 club. Hope he hits 30 bombs next year - mostly against the rest of the AL west, and nothing against us.

Congrats to Gomes on his payday, he deserves it. Had a GREAT year and was a friggin joy to watch during our special season. He's gonna make some nice dough over the next couple of years, I am really happy for him. If the sox use him like we did, he'll be good to go.

I hate to see him go to such a despicable organization, but he'll always be an Oakland A at heart. Plus he deserves the payday, so good for Jonny.

Gomes was huge for turning the A's org around both on and off the field, actually fun to have a guy who grew up an A's fan here locally produce the way he did and was one of the reasons why the A's won the AL West last season. Sad to see him go but he'll live in the minds of all A's fans.

Yeah too bad about Gomes. Sounds like his agent screwed that situation up.
He'll fit right into "bro" culture in Boston where he'll have a goatee in his trendy tight t-shirts and hit bombs off of mediocre left handed pitching in the AL East.

$10M/2YR is a great deal for Gomes. He is highly likely to decline significantly from last season.
