Josh Reddick wins the Gold Glove

Gold Glove awards are on right now on ESPN2.  He won it for RF!  Congrats to Reddick on a great season.

Inge was also nominated, for 3rd Base, but lost to Beltre.

Very well deserved! Didn't think he would win it tbh.

How did Brendan Ryan not get GG at SS?  He's probably one of the best defensive SS I've ever seen.  Crappy hitter though.

Wondered the same thing, myself; I thought Ryan would get it.  Glad to see Adam Jones  get GG over Trout, I thought he deserved it.  I still can't believe Seattle dealt Jones.  Thought it was crazy at the time; sorta like the A's dealing Cargo ... dumb, dumb moves.

Soooo happy for Reddick, he truly deserved it.  Saw that his defensive play cut down 22 potential runs against us.  He is a terrific all around outfielder.  I think he wore down toward the end ... but his first full season, so not surprising;  just a terrific season though.  Those 32 HRS were pretty terrific too.  I voted him player of the year in Scout's poll.  Tough choice btw. him, Cespedes and Coco, especially, but I really thought he was the A's MVP, when all said and done.

I can't even remember the last time a beloved A's player won a Gold Glove -- Congrats to Reddick! wink

Happy for Josh, he was definitely deserving. Hopefully he can go on one of those 10 year runs that the great outfielders tend to have.

Shocked Trout didn't win. He's got the stats, the highlight reel plays, everything really. Seems like the baseball people are holding his age and experience level against him. Curious to see if the writers have the same view in the MVP race.

There is your answer, Hardy is a much better hitter. As little sense as it makes to include offense with these awards, we see it happen continuously. Ryan is but the most recent example, hardly the only example.

Im with you on Ryan, that dude can pick it with terrific arm.

I agree Reddick wore down at the end of the season. He also had a ton of bumps and bruises--to to mention the tooth thing--that likely wore him down even more.

I'm interested to see how he builds on this year.

Congrats to Reddick, deserved it by his arm alone this past season.

Last A's gold glove winner was probably the last Chavez gold glove he won whenever that was, 2006 which was the last season he was probably remotely healthy to play near a season's worth of games? Although Ellis should've won one or two during his tenure with the A's.

RE: Josh Reddick wins the Gold Glove

Very much deserved by Reddick. He became a force in RF very quickly and teams just flat stopped running on him most of the time, and got hosed when they did. Impressed he beat out Francouer.

I have to say Trout and Ryan got robbed. I wouldn't hate Ryan being on the A's next year, even as bad as his offense is. Obviously not my #1 option, but he is an absolute savage with the glove. He'd be especially awesome as a late game defensive replacement for either middle infield position.

Chavez was last GG winner.  Reddick is the first A's OF to win it since '85; I believe Dwayne Murphy won that one.

Josh deserved this, but it's still a surprise, especially after Melvin getting robbed of a MOY.

Excellent news...rookies & young players usually don't win the award, so he must be truly gaining attention on the national level.

Re: Josh Reddick wins the Gold Glove

I didn't see a lot of Trout (what I did see  was pretty amazing), but did see a lot of Adam Jones. There is absolutely no way Adam Jones was a better defensive center fielder than Trout or Austin Jackson of Detroit, another finalist.

The Gold Glove awards and nominations are probably the most ridiculous things ever. You win the award once and you'll keep winning it, barring injury. The all-time example was Rafael Palmeiro, who played about 30 games at first one year with Texas and won it. You won't find many bigger Cal Ripkin fans than me. but Ozzie Guillen was a better defensive shortstop than Cal. But the White Sox used to pinch hit for Ozzie a lot while Cal was out there every day, so Cal won the GG.

I saw Ryan play about three times last year, and he was good. JJ Hardy lacks the range and flash of Ryan, but there is something to be said for making the plays on a consistent basis, and Hardy did. But there is another low-hit great glove guy as a shortstop playing with the Red Sox named Iglaseas (sp?).  Even while the Red Sox snoozed through the last two months, he was making some great plays for them.

Congrats to Reddick, but a reminder that Nick Markakis of the O's should be back next year, and he'll want his GG back. It will be interesting to see Reddick and Markakis face off in 2013 and on.
