Hughes was throwing 94-95 wit a 90 mph cutter and a nasty 74 mph curve.
Hughes could be huge going forward. Assuming the Yankees win this game, of course.

7.05(h) One base, if a ball, pitched to the batter, or thrown by the pitcher from his position on the pitcher's plate to a base to catch a runner, goes into a stand or a bench, or over or through a field fence or backstop. The ball is dead; APPROVED RULING: When a wild pitch or passed ball goes through or by the catcher, or deflects off the catcher, and goes directly into the dugout, stands, above the break, or any area where the ball is dead, the awarding of bases shall be one base. One base shall also be awarded if the pitcher while in contact with the rubber, throws to a base, and the throw goes directly into the stands or into any area where the ball is dead. Glad you two worked that out.

Yankees have looked good overall when you consider how close both loses to Detroit were. Hopefully, the Yankees can win tomorrow so we can see Montero get some at bats versus CJ Wilson.

Wow what a game for Yanks! Enormity and implications of the little things that transpired can not be overstated.
- Season not over - AJ (WS AJ, last game in Boston this year AJ, somewhere in there is a 82 million player still) - A-ROD (If he gets going, it changes ALL EQUATIONS EVERYWHERE) - Tex (He follows A-Rod, like Silver following Gold) - Soriano (Has to feel good) - Hughes (He is one of those guys who doesn't get mad (fatal flaw), but he should. He can kill for us) - Jesus (Not that he wasn't already feeling good before but now he has to be licking his chops)
I can't see us losing to Fister. Just can't. And Texas is good, but I have a feeling we whoop them.

anthonyd46 wrote: hard to believe mo has pitched to 1 batter this series And that Robertson has pitched just one inning in four games. I hope this series does go the way of the 1960 WS, where the Yankees won something like 11-0, 14-0 (both behind Whitey Ford), and 16-3 (behind Bob Turley - Yanks led 16-1 but the Pirates rallied late) and lost four close games. I was calling the game today, the Alfred E. Neuman game, as in "What, me worry?"

Jesus Montero is the 3rd youngest player in team history to get a playoff basehit, the other two being Joe Dimaggio and Mickey Mantle.

Could be a major reason why we see Tex struggling, the outside balls are strikes and Tex can't shake his pull happiness. He needs to do what Gardner is doing with those pitches in the indicated box.

2 hits in 1 inning for ARod.

Re: Game 4 ALDS: New York (Burnett) @ Detroit (Porcello) 8:37pm
We had some friends over last night so instead of watching the game I DVR it. I will watch it sometime today. From what I have seen from replays Granderson made a terrific play in the first inning to save AJ. It reminded me of the play the right fielder for the Yankees made when El Duque was pitching as a rookie with us down 2 games to one against Cleveland. Both plays changed the outcome of the games.
AJ along with the defense did what was needed last night.
Regarding Mark T not hitting he has always had some holes in his swing that good pitchers have been able to exploit. Since he has become such a pull hitter there are more pitches now that he can’t handle.

Is that a compliment? So terrible. They also were all over Sabathia even though Verlander allowed as many runs and tonight they lauded Porcello. I understand every broadcast has biases, but they're so obviously biased and incompetent at the same time. It has become very annoying. I might be switching to Yenta and the Blowhard for Thursday's game.

Well, Verlander outpitched Sabathia by a wide margin. There's a large difference between 5 1/3 and 8 IP.
I was listening to the game on the radio for awhile, and the radio guys (in the 3rd or 4th) were saying that Porcello wasn't making good quality pitches - they were talking about high sinkers, which is just not a phrase you want to hear about your pitcher.

It was an interesting dynamic because he was getting some of them high enough up where the hitter couldnt do anything with them but they were sinking right into the top of the zone...or at least what last night's ump believed was the top of the zone. Those high sinker strikes killed the Yanks all night but they were still able to bang the ball around a bit. I am excited for tomorrow!
In baseball, you can't kill the clock. You've got to give the other man his chance. That's why this is the greatest game.
