I thought the Mets would make a push for him, I guess they are happy with Luis Castillo...

The great Joey Gathright is heading to the Cubs for 1 year @ 800,000. I guess he can jump some cars on Waveland Ave.

The Giants might have been better off making a play for Furcal, instead of Renteria.

LOS ANGELES -- Rafael Furcal is staying with the Los Angeles Dodgers, reaching a preliminary agreement Wednesday on a three-year contract.

Furcal fools ChiYankee and the Braves.  The Braves weren't happy about this at all.  First they lose out on AJ and now Furcal. I think they'll stop shopping around now lol.  Or maybe break the bank for Tex only to see him go for more money.

There's a fourth year vesting option on that Furcal contract, but its based on getting 600 PA in 2011, so they can always prevent that from happening if they really don't want him for the fourth year.

At least he didn't end up in CF for the Yankees!

I just read that the Yankees are looking at Manny. I will oficially auction off all my stuff if the sign him. Why not get Abreu back. He fits well in the outfield, is patient at hte plate, and does things the right way. Guess Hal and Hank are jsut like good ol' daddy.

He fits well in the outfield? He's a great hitter but I can't handle another year of Abreu in the OF.

Abreu is only a great fit in the OF if by fit you mean poor.  He's a bad outfielder with a good arm.

Which might at least be better than a bad OF with an average at best arm...

Not when the guy with the good arm has declining power and obp numbers while the guy with the bad arm is one of the 5 greatest right handed hitters of all-time and didn't appear to show any signs of slowing down at the end of last season.

I can see the argument against Manny, but I can't see ANY argument for Abreu.

Abreu has always been one of my faves, even during his Philly days. That being said, it is time to move on. If DH was open, I'd consider him. If DH can be opened for Manny, then it might work out if we sign him. I can't bear the thought of more crappy defense in RF, which might even be crappier than last years crappy crap...

Some minor transactions:
Aaron Boone signs with the Astros
Misty May's hubby, Matt Treanor signs with Detroit
And Trot Nixon signs a minor league deal with the Brewers.

RE: Free Agent Tracker

The Angels didn't keep K-Rod and might not keep Tex, but they are keeping Juan Rivera.

"ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—Outfielder Juan Rivera decided to stay with the Los Angeles Angels, agreeing Friday to a $12.75 million, three-year contract.

The 30-year-old outfielder hit .246 with 12 homers and 45 RBIs in 89 games for the Angels last season, his fourth with the team. All 12 of his homers came in a span of 58 games after July 2. He also was the Angels’ top pinch hitter with five hits in 14 at-bats and five RBIs including two game-winners."
