Wings Win Another Series; Clip Iron Pigs 7-4

It was getaway day in Rochester and the Red Wings can finally say they had a successful homestand. After winning their first home series of the year by beating Gwinnett 3 games to 1, they followed it up by winning 3 of 4 from Lehigh Valley. With the win, Red Wings move back to within a game of vacating the IL cellar.

Today Anthony Swarzak managed to once again stagger thru 5 innings, leaving the game with a 5-2 lead. After allowing a 1st inning run, Rochester roared back in the bottom of the 1st and scored 4 times, keyed by D;Angelo Jimenez's bases clearing 3 run double. Neshek and Burnett pitched an effective inning each while Rochester padded their lead to 7-2. Rob Delaney closed it out with a very ineffective 9th...allowing 2 runs and 3 hits (including a leadoff solo HR) But a win is a win. And the Wings are on a bit of a roll right now.

Red-hot Brandon Roberts was 2-3 before leaving the game with a slight calf injury he sustained by fouling a ball off of it....hopefully he'll be fine when the Wings begin their roadtrip on Wednesday. Tomorrow is the last scheduled day off of the season. Roberts now has 9 mulithit games in his last 11 starts and is hitting .439 over the last 10 games. He is making everyone stand up and take notice.and is clearly the most exciting player on the club right now.
Matt Tolbert returned to the lineup and went 2-4. Macri and Lehmann also had 2 hits each. Morales must not have arrived yet. Nice to see Tolbert eager to play. I'm sure he wants to make the most of these next 2 weeks so he can get a Sept recall if the Twins so choose.

This past week has been a most refreshing change for Red Wings fans. The team has looked pretty good and there have been contributions from all over the lineup.
Trevor Plouffe who has been mired in a miserable slump got the day off. Hopefully these 2 days off will help him get straightened out.

We have had no word on whether jacque Jones will play again this year, and we haven't heard any updates on the status of Morneau. Jair Fernandez was returned to New Britain to make room on the roster for Tolbert and Morales.

Swarzak is now 4-10, with wins in his last two starts. He hasn't pitched all that well but the team has scored some runs for him

Ramos had a good day for the Chiefs yesterday going 3-4.

Attendance today was 5,882 closing the homestand with a total for the year of about 396,000.with 8 more home games to play.
