Holy Cow! Red Wings Sweep Chiefs!!

To paraphrase the great movie Groundhog Day: 'something is different...and different is GOOD'.

It took Nieto's Wings till the final month of the 2011 season to win a series. It has taken Gene Glynn's Wings exactly 2 games to accomplish that feat. In fact with the 2-0 start, the Red Wings are now TWO games over .500 for the first time since June 2009!

Not a misprint. June 2009 was the last time Rochester was 2 games over .500. It never happened at all during ManagerTom's disastrous 2 years with the Red Wings.

This afternoon Rochester nipped the Chiefs 3-1 to come home undefeated for the first time in I don't know how long. Only 2 games, I know....but its DIFFERENT!  And different is GOOD!

Wings pitchers were stellar on this cold, sunny afternoon, in front of a few hundred brave souls in Syracuse NY. Scott Diamond pitched into the 7th allowing only 4 hits, one walk and no runs. Gutierrez gave up the only Chiefs run in the 8th and Anthony Slama came on for the 4 out save.

As for the bats today, Dozier had 2 more hits; Benson had a pair; Bates drove in a run with a double; Dinkelman had his 2nd triple in as many games. Matt Carson had 2 more hits and is 6-9 so far.'Slugger' Drew Butera came crashing back to earth with an 0-4 day. Wings scored a run on a bases loaded grounder and also on a wild pitch.

Perhaps the only negative was another sloppy day on the bases. Wings got a runner picked off third; another tossed out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch; and Ray Chang forgot how many outs there were and took off flying on Butera's infield pop-up with one out. Chang had just been plunked in the arm for the 2nd time in the game and probably wasn't totally concentrating.

No matter. Wings open at home tomorrow against the Buffalo Bisons. Nearly 9,000 tickets have been sold and Dan Mason expects a crowd between 10,000-11,000 on a day that should be sunny and around 60 degrees.

Wings have not trailed in any inning so far. Two wins, no losses! Ah life is sweet!!!

Something is different. And different is GOOD

See insagt maybe give Gene Glynn a chance!!!! I remember you didnt seem to high on bringing in this no name manager....sure its only a couple games but the guy I think will do a good job. Hopefully the Wings gain some confidence and have a succesful year, it wont surprise me a bit, I think Gene can get the job done...

He 'looks' like a manager. Made a very good first impression on all the local sportswriters/broadcasters. After the last 2 years, anyone not named Connie Mack or Tom LaSorda or Joe Torre would make us uneasy around here!
