Twins vs Cleveland 8/21

Twins vs Cleveland 8/21

Hughes with a strong 7 innings to pace the Twins to a rare win 4-1 over the Indians. Perkins picked up the save and Hughes wins his 14th...only one win off the major league leaders with 15. Amazing.
Vargas continues his hot hitting with his 4th HR.
Hughes could still win 20 --a longshot for sure, but still possible., Wouldn't that be something...especially with a team that is destined to finish in last place.

Hughes has been a pleasant addition and obviously, our most dependable starting pitcher this year.  As good as he's been, Nolasco has been inversely disappointing.

This kid Vargas, reminds me a bit of David Ortiz.  First of all, real big guy and he's quick wrists.  Lucky for him, he's not as pull-happy as Big Papi, otherwise Gardy would be in his ear all day and be driving him nuts.

Vargas seems to be a pleasant surprise.   Could he pan out as 1B or is he primarily a DH??

Another intriguing Twin player is Santana,  What is his best position SS or CF?

Re: Twins vs Cleveland 8/21

Santana is an infielder by trade. but because the Twins are obligated by law to trade away any and all center fielders who come along, they got clever and converted him into a center fielder! Pretty sneaky huh!
I guess I am very curious as to what they plan on doing with Vargas. Maybe they thought he wouldn't be this good..when they called him up 'temporarily' to take Mauer's place. He is a first baseman, as is Joe. I can't see making someone this young a full-time DH? So would he and Joe share the duties of 1B/DH? Will they try and move Mauer in the off season? Joe certainly won't be catching anymore.

Will be interesting to see how Vargas does in September.

Few days ago the Twins got 5 in the first inning and lost. Tonite they get 6 in the 2nd inning and are now clinging to a 6-5 lead halfway thru the game.
Gotta love these guys.,.......

Twins doing Royals a huge favor tonight. Man the Tiger bullpen is in complete disarray. Maybe Pino gives them a chance tomorrow, but Gardy will need a backup plan for May.

wow--Twins join the 20-20 club....20 runs-20 hits. One of those crazy games where everything you touch is a hit.

I thought this was a preseason football score (Vikings 20 and Lions 6).  Will watch the game in its entirety and enjoy it.  Nice to see one of my favorites, Eduardo Escobar, have a career night and drive his average back over .280 (.282) now.

Too bad for Tommy Milone that he couldn't get thru 5 and pick up a win.  I wonder what his excuse was last night noidea.

He ran a lot of them out during the post game but I don't remember specifically. Just remember thinking, man, own it dude.

Exactly.  It would be refreshing to hear an athlete say, 'man, I sucked tonight - for whatever reason.  I hope I'm better next time, otherwise I may look to find another occupation.'

And the other thing that annoys me is Gardy unduly calling out young players and their plate discipline or 'not getting after it' or whatever... and unduly finding positive things to say about a clearly underwhelming Trevor May.

It does sometimes happen. A month or so ago, Chris Davis, who is having a brutal follow-up season to his career year in 2013, was kept out of the lineup and reporters asked him why that was.
He responded, 'because right now I suck'.

It does happen, but not hardly enough.
