Wings Play 2 This Afternoon

Wings Play 2 This Afternoon

Any hopes the Twins organization has of having at least one of its teams complete a reasonably successful season really come home to roost this afternoon.
Rochester was rained out yesterday so today they play 2 seven inning games against the league's best team.
The lastest bad development is that 4th place Buffalo has now caught the slumping Wings making the playoff chase even more complicated. Both Wings and Bisons trail the WC team Pawutcket by 2 1/2 games....that is doable.
However while Buffalo is playing well, Rochester is not. Syracuse holds a 5 game lead on the Wings...making catching them pretty much impossible. If Rochester were to sweep the DH today they could inch back to 3 behind....but honestly I can't see that happening.
Wings pitching has taken a left turn, both starters and relievers. Wings defense has become very shabby. Routine fly balls are being misjudged; ground balls are slipping thru the infield; and don't even get me started with the catching situation.
Meanwhile, the offense is also sputtering.

In short, everything is out of whack in Red Wing Land right now. Bad timing.

I have no clue what the solution is because they have been so inconsistent for over a  month now.

By late this evening, we'll have a much better idea of how important the final 2 weeks will be.....or won't be.

I'm not sure that is an entirely accurate statement.  Sure, the Red Wings are falling apart and the Rock Cats drifted out of contention a while ago, but the Twins actually have three other teams in their system that are doing just fine. The Fort Myers Miracle (high A team) are only 2.5 games out of first for the second half and finished first in the first half which, if I'm not mistaken, automatically qualifies them for the playoffs.   Cedar Rapids (low A) is only a 1/2 game out of first and Elizabethton (rookie league) is currently sitting in first place.  So potentially, they will have a minimum of 1 team making the postseason and possibly a total of 4 teams in their organization moving on.

I really only pay attention to AAA, AA, and high A. Of those 3 leagues, things aren't real rosy.

And, as I pointed out, the high A team is already in the playoffs by virtue of their first place finish in the first half and they have the best overall record in their division right now.  I'd certainly call that a successful season by any measure.
