Trevor May's Debut A Disaster

Trevor May's Debut A Disaster

Trevor May brought more than just his equipment to Oakland for his major league debut today. He also brought a truckload of butterflies. By the time the smoke cleared, May had walked 7 and allowed 4 in 2 innings of forgettable work.
Everyone who reads my Red Wings posts, knows that the Wings pitching staff this year has had major issues with control. The walks have been a sorry reminder of how many games you can lose when you walk the ballpark

May's start tonite had everyone scambling for the record books to see who, if any, walked that many batters in his major league debut, in only 2 innings.

Well, it wasn't a very good night for his former team either...Wings got pasted and lost ground in a 14-5 thrashing. Alex Meyer didn't have it tonite either.

A's continue to assault the hapless Twins tonite. 9-2 now as Deduno gets battered.
Why in the world did the Twins pick up this guy Schafer from the scrap heap????

Yep - he earned his ticket back to Rochester and we won't have to wonder...

9-4. Its over and its sad that the Twins outhit the A's 12-10 but still lost by 5 runs. This is the difference between a winner and a loser team.

Walks.....ugh.

For a pitcher who was thought to be a mid to top of the rotation guy, his stuff was awful.  Unimpressive.  90-91 MPH 2 seamer that he couldn't throw over the plate and a slurve that also was all over the place.  Sadly, I might now agree with Brian and Insagt that the Revere trade was bad.  I still don't think Revere is a major league starting centerfielder because of his weak arm but May looks worse.  I'd place him in a setup role at best and I'd say he's at least a year away from another shot.  He needs another pitch.

I'd take 'weak arm' Revere back in a second. I'll bet the house that his arm 'deficiency' has not cost the Phillies as many games as his bat and speed have helped....by a longshot.
Not every outfielder has a cannon for an arm....but its hard to find a leadoff hitter like Revere (or Span for that matter)

Maybe Santana will fill the bill (if they don't trade him because it must be in the bylaws somewhere that the Twins MUST offload any and all center fielders they develop or acquire.)

Yeah.  Trust me, I wanted to be wrong and still hope I am... hopefully the guy goes down, learns some control and picks up another pitch he can throw for strikes (and not in the middle of the plate).

I wanted to vomit a little over a year and a half ago and the same feeling came over me yesterday.

Meanwhile, Revere continues to be everything the player insagt and I saw and appreciated.  Would love to have the guy back, of course.

Don't be so quick to throw dirt on a guy after one start.....
Losers whine about their best...... Winners go home and        %##%# the prom queen.

Yeah, even if it happened to be one of the worst debuts in all of Twins' history.  The guy was nothing short of horrid.  But, but, but... the most alarming thing is/was his lack of command on all his pitches.

We'll see - I still have my doubts on whether the guy will ever help us.  I know we all want him to, but the guy may never get there (ie Jim Hoey) despite having a decent arm.

In his defense, I distinctly remember Joe Beimel's inauspicious limited action with us way back when and thought, 'my god, this may be the worst major league pitcher I have EVER seen!'  The guy has gone on and been serviceable for many teams...
