HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU SPEND 10 MINUTES IN A BOOTH IN NEW YORK AND STILL GET IT WRONG????????

Dude, you can't catch a baseball with your glove facing the ground - impossible.  Secondly, why can't you see the ball hitting grass as much as glove?  We call this a TRAP and batter MUST be safe.

Gardy is absolutely correct in getting tossed... the system is flawed IF YOU'RE STILL GETTING IT WRONG WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF TECHNOLOGY...disbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief

The "good" Gibson showed up tonight and yes, he's been VERY good.  As Roy Smalley has pointed out, this is best breaking pitch Gibson has had this year.  Combine this with that sinker and he's been devestatingly good.

Meanwhile, the Twins formula for making Shields throw a million pitches, is the absolutely correct approach.

Eh, a guy in his first full year making what he makes doesn't bother me as much as fat cats like Ricky Nolasco, Mike Pelfrey and Kevin 'freakin' Correia (and Joe Mauer, of course).

If Gibson got consistent, whoa, watch out world, but so far, ,he's either on or conspicuously off.

Exactly.  As a guy pitching in his first full year, you have to cut him some slack as all Major League pitchers go through these growing pains early in their careers.  Does anyone remember how mortal Johan Santana looked when the Twins first brought him up?   At this point, you just look for signs that he can be a quality pitcher, and we have certainly seen that from Gibson.  A rookie pitcher sporting a record of 9-8 and an ERA of under 4.00 really isn't all too shabby.

I do think that Gibson will eventually find that consistency, be it this year or next. Also, it seems to me that his "flashes" of being good have been lasting longer. One can hope, right?

When it comes to Nolasco, Pelfrey and Correia (I've realized that complaining about Mauer doesn't do me any good) I try to think of the as the Three Stooges and laugh at the stupidity of not only having them, but also paying them insane $$$... Hopefully we'll let some of the younger guns in the minors have a start or two come September...
Meyer and May will be top of the rotation starters by 2015.

Well, the only caveat to the Nolasco portion of the tale is that he has apparently been hurt all season.  It's entirely possible that he could come back healthy next year and be an effective pitcher for them.  Pelfrey . . . . yeah, an utter disaster that most people saw coming before it happened.  Correia was signed for one year, too long.  He gave them exactly what could have been realistically expected of him in his first year (a serviceable, back-end starter who ate innings), but has taken a real nose dive this year.

Re: Twins @ Royals - July 29th, 2014 - GAME THREAD!

Why gibson drives me nuts is that his swings are so huge...he either pitches 7 or 8 scoreless innings or he is shelled in the first 2 innings. This has been a very strange pattern I rarely see with young pitchers. They either bust on the scene guns blazing or they struggle most the time.
With Gibson you NEVER know which guy you're getting.

That said--overall, ignoring how he has gotten here, 9-8 for a poor team isn't that shabby.

and my other caveate would be that the Twins really shouldn't be a poor team. They have better personnel than their record shows IMO. That they have underachieved and have been inconsistent is a factor of the manager and the coaching IMO. Gardy is stale and the coaches have been lousy. The team would respond to new leadership in a much different way.

this is how I see 2014. They should be better. leadership stinks.

The one thing from yesterday's game that still annoys me is this... the game was delayed that long and to come up with a piss-poor decision after all that time - this is not good for baseball.

Twins drop game 2 by a score of 3-2.  Hughes pitched well, just not well enough to win as his offense let him down.  Willingham hit what may very well have been last homer in a Twins' uniform last night (I'm guessing Ryan simply gives him away for a PTBNL).

With any luck, they will win the rubber match today and wash away that bad taste left from the White Sox series.

agree about Willingham. I hope they do get something for Suzuki. Guess the Orioles aren't interested.

6-3 loss. Post trade deadline starts off with a thud as Twins hit their low water mark. (I think anyway....11 under....maybe they were 12 under once?)
