Re: Kansas City @ Minnesota - June 30th, 2014 - GAME THREAD!

Here's where I want to be proven wrong:

I think Gardy is an idiot for sitting Escobar in favor of Nunez and playing Parmelee against a touch lefty??
IF it were me, this is what my lineup would look like:

1.  CF SANTANA
2. SS ESCOBAR
3. 1B MAUER
4. LF WILLINGHAM
5. DH MORALES
6. 2B DOZIER
7. C SUZUKI
8.  3B PLOUFFE
9.  RF FULD

Tell me that's not a more balanced and better lineup.

That might be a tough one to pull off since Santana is still on the DL.

biggrinbiggrin

That is AWESOME!  Haha - someone IS paying attention!  I was betting I could say whatever I wanted and no one would notice...

This mean I have someone to chat with about the festivities presently on the field tonight?

I'll go on record to say I like Pino.

However, it seems he struggles when he's not getting calls on the gray.  Again, too many pitches tonight and a few too many juicy ones.

We're still in it and would love to see this lineup put up some offense.

That 'other' Escobar just made us pay every time we made mistakes.

6-1 - game over.  See you tomorrow night.

Maybe someone out there will get motivated to make a positive contribution to this website (outside of insagt and myself).

just got home from the Wings-Tides game. Saw the 6-1 score. Ouch. Another stinker and I assume not a good start again for Pino. Boo. Wings summary in separate thread.

Re: Kansas City @ Minnesota - June 30th, 2014 - GAME THREAD!

Pino wasn't nearly as bad as the scoreline would suggest.

And yeah, I'd have stacked that lineup with as many righties as possible vs. Duffy, even if it meant putting Nunez in the outfield.  Having said that, Parmelee gave us some real nice at-bats...

Tomorrow night we need to see a return on Ricky Nolasco.  Enough is enough...

Dang, missed the game thread. Pino looks like he could be serviceable as a fifth starter. Twins really miss Santana at the top. Duffy was throwing strikes and looked like twins were trying their bats on shoulders strategy too much. Shields hasn't been much better than Nolasco in his last five starts.

This team is slowly, but surely sinking back to its 2013 form.  Sure, there are some positives, but losing is losing.  The only silver lining?  The chances of Gardenhire returning are greatly diminished if they go into yet another tailspin.

Yep--this is what I'm seeing too. A combination of key injuries and a lack of consistent major league talent is sending the Twins back to the basement.
Gotta think that by July 31, Willingham will definitely be gone as a short term rental; Morales may not hang around either. Who knows what else they may do but the team has become a seller, I think officially. They are no longer competitive for the wild cards. While pitching has been a huge culprit...lately the hitting has completely gone south.

Re: Kansas City @ Minnesota - June 30th, 2014 - GAME THREAD!

The bottom line is that they need to win this next series and the following series against the Yankees in order to have a chance at climbing back into this thing.  If they can't do that, then I think they need to start selling.  Willingham and Morales would be the most likely names to jettison with Correia being next.

Of course what really needs to happen is for brian to predict that the Twins are going to embark on a massive losing streak.  The last time he predicted they were about ready to go on an absolute tear they started this streak of futility shortly thereafter, so maybe if he predicts the opposite, that will do the trick wink

And if he's right, we'll hear about it until 2016. excited JK.

In all seriousness, this team just looks so non-challant about everything, especially the veterans. Losing becomes so contagious when your manager/ star player seem so "OK" or "used" to losing. These type of runs late-June, early-July seem like clockwork with this team over the last few years, and its very tough to watch... and even tougher to write about.

Just one man's opinion I guess...

Re: Kansas City @ Minnesota - June 30th, 2014 - GAME THREAD!

truth in that. Losing, like winning is contagious. Once your field leader 'accepts' losing by not kicking some a$$, or by making excuses, like the one I DETEST...'well we really battled out there tonite'...losing becomes a culture. Its comfortable to come to the park and not win because there is little consequence or accountability. If you are playing .600 ball and you drop a tough one, THEN you can play the 'battling' card....once in awhile. but it should never be a substitute 'feel-good' for losing regularly.

I have no idea what Joe Mauer says to his teammates. (I can guess) And Gardy has been around so long, I 'almost' think he is just punching his ticket. For several years the Orioles had a string of managers who accepted losing in stride...and I absolutely hated it.

When Tom Nieto 'managed' the Red Wings, you never saw such an unmotivated, dead bunch of players, go thru the motions, while the manager stood around like a cigar store Indian. they simply followed his lead and circled the drain accordingly.

Twins don't appear to be very motivated. Maybe they feel they can't compete in their division. Maybe they have been told they aren't very good. While they have shown a bit of spunk with some late game rallies, most are still losses, and eventually that spunk will die out when the results don't bear any fruit.

This team needs some vocal leadership. Be it the manager, or some rabble-rouser in the dugout...someone has to make them feel very uncomfortable sitting in that dugout, and losing.

I remember a time when if an Oriole missed doing something fundamental during a game...he was afraid to come back to the dugout and face the wrath of Earl Weaver. This is not to say the games can't or shouldn't be fun. Just that losing should never be fun. It should be avoided at all costs. Just how much each team is willing to pay determines whether they are winners or losers.

That was supposedly part of the rationale behind putting Molitor in the dugout.  Unfortunately, he has either been stifled by the powers-that-be or he simply isn't the fiery, "rah-rah" guy he was made out to be.

biggrin Just don't start me on Ben Revere.

Eh, after my "prediction", we promptly swept the White Sox, and I was thinking I'd be gloating at least until the rest of the summer.  We'll see how it goes, amigos, but glad it's inspired some chat.

Twins have been very streaky this season. Sadly the losing part of the streaky is starting to overtake the winning.

Good pitching always serves as a stabilizing factor to any "good" team.

"IF" we start seeing Ricky Nolasco pitch the way he's capable of, Correia and co. continuing to show improvement, we all should see something we haven't seen for a couple seasons.
