Reeling Wings Find New Ways to Lose

Reeling Wings Find New Ways to Lose

OH this one was bad. Coming home before a packed house, the Red Wings bats continued to slumber and some great pitching was totally wasted as Norfolk wins 2-1 in 13 innings on a very unearned run.

The Wings did so many things wrong on this night. The only run Alex Meyer allowed in 6 innings was an improbable wind blown HR by Xavier Paul in the 4th. But Chris Jones and a parade of relievers held the Wings scoreless until the 9th. A leadoff walk by Beresford was followed by a scorching liner into the left field corner by Romero. Beresford chugged around the bases and scored to tie it up but Romero got hung up between 2nd and 3rd.

Naturally Colabello followed with a hard base hit, which probably would have scored Romero from second to win the game. More to come.Wings hitters were whiffing with horrible regularity.
Wings should have won the game in the 12th. Colabello led off with a towering blast to left...but it hit about a foot below the top of the wall. Chris perhaps thinking he got it all, turned on the jets, sliding into 2nd safely...then oversliding glided off the bag and was tagged out. Naturally Hermann followed with a single that would have plated the winning run. The next two hitters fanned to end the inning.

But the bullpen was holding the line until the fateful 13th. With one out, and Farris playing way too deep, the Tide hitter Peguero blooped what should have been an easy out into center. With Michael Almanzar batting (his first AAA game) Peguero took off for 2nd. Hermanns throw was offline and bounced past Bernier for an error and Peguero huslted to third. Almanzar now with the infield in broke his bat on a weak pop up toward 2nd base...except that the 2nd baseman was playing in. the ball bounced on the infield grass behind him, scoring the tainted run.

Bottom of the 13th, Rahl led off with a single, but Daniel Ortiz had a terrible AB...failing twice to lay down a bunt and then striking out on a pitch near his eyeballs. Farris then flew out to the warning track in left.
Rahl stole 2nd but Beresford ended the nightmare game by striking out.

15 Wings batters struck out on this day. Losing this one was a kick to the groin. Norfolk came in dead last in pitching. They were tied with the Wings for best hitting team, but the Wings pitchers totally shut them down until that mess in the 13th, when they shouldn't have had any hits at all.

This team has a dark cloud following it around this month. They are in danger now of falling into 3rd place, when just 2 weeks ago, they were comfortably sparring with Syracuse for 1st.

Wings have not been sharp on the bases this season and tonite it cost them a come from behind win.

Like the parent Twins, this team has really lost its way.ohlord

Re: Reeling Wings Find New Ways to Lose

Its sad to see both teams unraveling. I thought Rochester was the real deal this season, but over the past 3 or 4 weeks, all the warts have been exposed...and all the injuries have really upset the chemistry. Last nights loss stung. Too many mistakes and waaay too many strikeouts lately. The hitters are not approaching the plate with confidence.
As for the Twins, well I hate to think they are finally seeking their level...but the last 5 games have been awful. And suddenly they can't win on the road. Looking like a better bet to be 10 under .500 by the 4th of July...than trying to close in on .500. Kinda disappointed in Morales. Guess he may not be the answer the Twins were looking for.

Working backwards, I think Morales heats up as the summer heats up.  Remember, this is pretty much his spring training.

He beat the shift today and we got a much needed win on the road.  Kyle Gibson was more than adequate and Perkins nailed down the save.

Let's hope it's a sign of good things to come.

TWINS WIN!

can thank an 'honest' security guard for not just happening to be in the way of Morales hit...which could have resulted in Fuld not being able to score the go ahead run in the 9th if he hadn't have gyrated out of the way!
Good point on Morales. I hope you are right.
And whats with the Twins recalling young infielders too soon and having them immediately pay dividends!! First Santana, and now this kid Polanco! Wow. Wish Florimon could take a page out their book....but he can't hit the broad side of a barn with a wrecking ball.
