Twins at Texas 6/27

Once again, the boards are dead. Just like the team. Total mess tonite. Twins have played 4 stinkers in a row where they have fallen behind early and pretty much that's that.
Just when you want to begin to have some hope in them, thud....

At least they had the legit shot to tie in the 9th, but Dozier is prone to K In those situations.

The call-up of Jorge Polanco wreaks of desperation.  Leave the kid alone at Ft. Myers (High A) and let him develop!

Honestly, if I'm Doug Bernier, I'm pissed off...

I honestly wouldn't call these four games that we've dropped as "stinkers.:

Similarly, I don't think the White Sox should have been too down after we swept those four games off them at home.  Although we've been placed in a deficit like last night, most of the time we've been competitive and there have been some real positive signs.  For instance, we could have laid down last, but we didn't and made it very interesting... we'll see how this plays out, but I definitely will be tuning in (as it just looks different to me - our body language is much better than the last two years).

Twins have been making a habit lately however of falling behind early and then trying to catch up in the final moments...and its not working. You get no points for losing by one run. They have to start getting into games from the beginning. Being only competitive just doesn't cut it unless you win those share of the close ones. Trying to come back from 5 down in the 9th is usually too high a mountain to climb.
Gotta start winning again. And that means our starters can't be giving up so many 1st and 2nd inning runs.
guess I'm just not impressed with the recent 'pattern'. Has to change.

Polanco---yup--a pretty dumb move. Get Bernier on the 40 man and give him the chance he deserves...even tho it will further kill the Wings. The injury situation is getting ridiculous...but it happens every year. Pinto being out really hurts Rochester; Santana being out really hurts the Twins...forces Florimon to play and the kid just flat out can't hit major league pitching. He's a liability.

My attitude is, we just nullified that nice 4 game sweep with some very poor baseball. By poor, I simply mean....no wins. And wins are all that matter in this horserace. Texas was in a miserable slump...we didn't bring our 'A' game against a struggling team.

And finally....Hicks. If they feel he can only compete now at the AA level....package him off and get somebody who can help the franchise. First they rush him up too soon...twice....and now suddenly he is playing for a AA team? And the switch-hitting...is he or isn't he? What a cluster........ohlord

That was precisely what I thought when I read that news.  Haven't they ruined enough A and AA players by calling them up the bigs before they play a single game in AAA?

As for last night's game,  I guess the only solace I can find is that they at least had enough gumption to come storming back in the 9th and make a game out of it.  Last year when Gardy would say that his team "battled hard" after a loss I would just roll my eyes, because it was clear they hadn't.  This year, however, there is definitely a higher level of compete even in games they lose.

I still hate losing though. Its often said (and I believe erroneously) that a team that loses a lot of one run (goal) decisions is 'close' to being good. To me, all it means is they play just poorly enough to lose. And losing doesn't count for anything good in pro sports (world cup maybe...but not pro sports) I find it a lot easier to swallow a 5-0 loss...where you just didn't have it, than a 5-4 loss where you come close, but still lose, often in heartbreaking ways. No style points for losing.
It is also said that one run decisions seem to equal out over time. Sometimes. But take the case of the Orioles two years ago...they won an inordinate number of those games and it resulted in a playoff spot for the first time in years.

I've never been a fan of 'battling'--because more often than not, its simply code for 'we lost'...and here's some rationalization.
Twins lost last night because they didn't 'battle' for 8 innings. And ironically it was the run Guerrier gave up in the 8th that was the ultimate killer.

I know many don't agree with me on this....but I hate losing. Always have. And its worse when you lose by just a little..either in a game or in the standings. (remember I'm an Expos fan and they wrote the book on heartbreaking losing)

When I wake up and see the Twins on a 4 game losing streak, I really don't care what the score was. Clearly those losses aren't getting them any closer to wins, in the grand scheme of things. Just my opinion and my miserable ranting.....

Oh, I'm not happy that they have been losing.  I just see a difference in the mental makeup of this team compared to the last few.   Last year's group never would have scored 4 runs after falling behind 5-0.

On that, I do agree completely. It 'may' bode well for the future....Ijust really hope they don't just fall apart second half like they have done over the past 3 years. They have better personnel...when healthy...but thats another issue.
I still feel a reasonable goal is .500. that would be around a 14 or 15 game improvement give or take.

well like I have been saying, losing close ones doesn't mean a darn thing. Today the Twins just didn;t bother to show up in a discouraging 5-0 loss. The team is now officially slumping.

One problem is they have too many DHs. Don't see how they can play willingham and Arica in the OF at the same time. Will be interesting to see what they do at the deadline. Will they flip Morales for something? Don't think Willingham will bring much at this point. I always get the impression Gardy is focused on the short run and will push not to concede a season.

After a quick start, Morales hasn't shown much at all. Twins may very well ship him off to a contender. He doesn't appear to be helping much.
