Willingham claimed by Orioles off of Waivers

It looks like the Orioles have claimed Willingham.  The Twins and the Orioles now have until noon tomorrow to pull him off of waivers, swing a deal or simply let him go.

The Orioles are dying on the vine this season...and they really need a full-time DH. Maybe willingham can help them. I hope (since I like both teams) that a trade can be facilitated. willingham can't help the Twins anymore, but maybe Twins can pick up some AA or AAA talent in return. I don't see the Twins pulling him back. I doubt he is in their plans for 2014.

anyone know what Twins want? Might be too late to get anyone decent. And for the O's it might be too late for anyone new to make a difference. They are fading fast.

It sounds like they are holding out for a quality prospect with the rationale being that Willingham is still under contract for next year and if he puts up numbers like he did last year, is a steal at $7 million/season.  I get the sense Ryan is willing to part with him if the deal is right but if it is not, he has no issue keeping him to see if he can return to form next season.

Well, it looks like Willingham will be finishing the season with the Twins.  According to reports, the Twins' asking price for Willingham was too high.  When the Orioles wouldn't budge, the Twins pulled him off of waivers.  That means he cannot be put on waivers again and will stay with the team for the rest of the season.  The speculation is that Ryan might try moving him in the offseason.  Personally, I don't see the point in trying to trade the guy after a lousy season.  Give him a shot at coming back and playing the way he did last season.

I agree and certainly don't tip your hand that you're desperate to move him.  He's battled some nagging injuries and should be more productive in 2014, but I say we should entertain offers and only consider where we're getting some value.
