Twins vs KC

Twins vs KC

Nice game for 7 innings. KC dismantles our pen in the 8th to grab a 5-0 lead. Butler homers in the 9th..Twins can muster only 1 run and 4 hits.
Lousy night.

I always hate seeing a solid effort by the starting pitcher wasted like that.

As much as I was against the Correia signing, I have to admit that he hasn't been as horrible as I thought he would be.  He is on pace to pitch over 200 innings and he usually pitches well enough to keep the Twins in games.

Suddenly the Twins bats have disappeared. And KC simply owns the Twins this season. Albers had a decent outing...the bullpen, yet again, did not. And the hitters aren't doing anything. Suddenly the Twins are a better bet to finish 20 under rather than striving to do better than 10 under.

Our performances of late speak volumes - we're collectively just playing out the schedule, no doubt in my mind.

However, Andrew Albers making a case for himself, on a night where there is little to cheer about.

I think the bullpen is simply out of gas.  After having to pick up the slack for a mediocre rotation for most of the year,  the arms in the pen are simply burned out. If that is the case, then the September call-ups should give the bullpen a much-needed shot in the arm.

As for the rotation, Albers looked solid last night.  A back end rotation of Deduno,  Albers and Correia might not look all that bad next year if they can actually add a couple of high-quality pitchers to take the top two spots (translated:  no more soft-throwing, pitch-to-contact, bargain basement re-treads).

I keep wondering about Diamond. since being sent down, he has looked VERY good. He should be 4-0 but his one no-decision was probably his best game...8 innings, 4 hits, 1 unearned run--left with a 6-1 lead...you guys all know what happened next in that game.

Well, the bad news is that the Twins just got swept today by losing 3-1 to the Royals.  The good news though, is that I believe they are finally done playing KC for the year.

Deduno only lasted three innings (after giving up 3 runs in the second, he left after the third inning due to a sore shoulder), but for once, the bullpen kept it close for them.  Per usual though, the bats went cold, registering only 5 hits in the game with the one run coming off of a solo shot by Dozier in the 6th.  Morneau's 0-4 performance dropped him below the .260 mark.   Willingham played and was 0-2 but had two walks.  Dozier had two of the Twins' five hits in the game.

Overall, things are pretty dismal right now (especially the bats).

dismal for sure. And KC has brought out the worst in them this season. What a nightmare. We got zero offense in these 3 games. I hate playing out the string this early, but a 90 loss season, once out of the question, is back on the table. Ouch.
Hey pray for us tonite!! If DeVries gets out of the first inning only trailing by 3 or 4, we might have a chance....that of course is predicated on him being lifted after one inning.
How bizarre that we have to use him in this situation.
If he rises to the occasion, that will be a total bonus. But a loss tonite will be crippling. (unless Norfolk loses) First place is out of reach. Mathmatically no, but realistically out of reach.

I think the Twins have hit rock bottom...they can't score, they can't win....all they can do is get hurt.
Mauer gets hurt...they call up Colabello when we needed him the most...and since going up he hasn't had one hit in his last 19 AB's. The gods of baseball just don't love either the Twins or the Wings right now. Twins suck and the Wings are chokers.
