Twins @ Bosox - May 6, 2013 - GAME THREAD (game in progress)

Worley in need of a quality start in the worst way...

Hicks somehow managed to put bat on ball and double in Arcia, top of 4th, Twins up 3-0.

Yeah, that was weird - posted within seconds of each other!  wink

I think this is the absolute best we can expect from a Vance Worley - give up a bunch of hits, but get lucky enough for most of the balls to be hit at fielders and somehow, keep us in ballgames.

out of nowhere Dozier with a long ball at the best time! Also thought Morneau beat out the grounder but it was close. Twins hanging tough.

They're saying on the Twins radio network that slowmo reply showed Morneau had just beaten it....Fenway Park magic for the Red Sox...hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

I thought he was safe.  But, but, but... we've gotten more than our fair share of calls in this game, including that blown call play at the plate where Joe applied the tag while the guy was on top of home plate.

Way to go, Brian Dozier - I am really hoping I'm way wrong about you.

Anthony Swarzak has been a real Godsend this year.

yeah, Justin was safe but yeah these calls all do seem to even out. Swarzak with 3 brilliant innings of relief. Would be nice if the Twins could reward that kind of effort. I'm in a foul mood tonite after the Wings disaster in Toledo and the Caps loss to the Rangers. Ugh

sad to see that Morneau is no longer that 'force' at the plate he used to be. One time he was THE man you wanted up there in game situations. Now he's merely an on and off .250 hitter who will sometimes get you a hit, but usually not with power. I still think the Twins might move him in July. However his 'replacement', if its Parmelee also isn't cutting it. But Morneau clearly isn't the player he used to be.

Morneau's replacement might not be Parmelee...maybe it's Mauer? Get a catcher to take over everyday, trade Morneau, move Joe to 1st.

RE: Twins @ Bosox - May 6, 2013 - GAME THREAD (game in progress)

bah--Burton quickly ruins Swarzaks great outing with a terrible 2/3 of an inning. However, I think that maybe a decent left fielder gets that ball. Doumit looked like he didn't know what to do out there. I think that ball was catchable. Anyway, this is the kind of game that good teams find ways to win and lousy teams lose. Their big hitter comes thru; ours fails. (their 'big' hitter tonite came into the game barely hitting .200! but goes 3-4)
Crappy way to end the night. I hate losing games like this.

I was really hoping I'd never see Ryan Doumit in the outfield again.  He was terrible out there last year and again, he arguably cost us a ballgame.

RE: Twins @ Bosox - May 6, 2013 - GAME THREAD (game in progress)

brian--is that how you saw it as well? When I saw the replay, it sure looked like a decent Ofer (Revere...cough cough) would have found the route to that ball and caught it..saving the day. Doumit really looked lost. the way both the Twins and Wings lost yesterday are the days I wish I didn't have favorite teams. I suppose if you are a Rays fan, you probably weren't pleased at blowing a 7-0 lead to last place Toronto either.

Its a long season so we get back on the horse and try again. So far, Worley has been a complete bust for the Twins....not that any of us should say I told you so just yet....just sayin'---I think TR had too much glitter in his eyes when he made that trade. While some will say 'hindsight'---we can say...we didn't like it from the beginning.

Maybe he'll turn it around. He has the luxury of knowing the Twins aren't competing for anything this season so they will probably give him a long leash

Re: Twins @ Bosox - May 6, 2013 - GAME THREAD (game in progress)

The thing that frustrates me the most with the outfield is the lineup. In my opinion, you can not have 2 of Doumit/Parmelee/Willingham out there at the same time. You just can't. Not enough range and none have a really strong arm. I don't get why Arcia is getting so much time at DH. He's a better fielder than all of these guys or will be. We know this season isn't going anywhere, so let the kid take his learning steps out there now. I think the regular lineup at this point should be Willingham in left, Hicks (or whoever gets called up) in center, and Arcia in right. Doumit or Parmelee should be DH'ing it, I'd rather have Parm cause he's our prospect and he's still learning and has put up better numbers. Doumit just hasn't hit the ball at all this year.

I just can't wait for the day when Buxton is out in center, we have a power bat in the one corner, and another speed guy in the other. biggrin

Doumit should never be in the outfield, sorry.  With regards to Parmelee's arm, he's got a gun (!) and I honestly believe he can be more than adequate in right field (on a par with Jason Kubel).
