Oswaldo Arcia called up

One of the Twins top prospects was called up today and apparently will join the team tomorrow.

Didn't expect that to happen...but at the same time...Hicks IS struggling...and this team needs something to help it catch fire. I still think a free agent is the way to go.

I read on MLB trade rumors we were interested in one of the Rangers outfielders (Borbon I believe)

RE: Oswaldo Arcia called up

they will be exchanging one untested rookie for another. I assume Hicks will be coming down. Arcia is one of two Wings who have contributed anything in the first 10 games...How would you like to have to watch this group of players so far:

Hermann .190; Dinkelman .182; Clement .077; boggs .167; Benson .111; Bernier .174; Fryer .125; Ferris .077; Olmedo .200; Sobolewski .207---10 regulars who can't hit their way out of a paper bag.

Now how about this pitching staff folks: 4 of the 5 starters ERA's-- Vasquez 6.30; Walters and Gibson 5.79; Martis 4.05; and the bullpen--Thielbar 6.75; Perdomo 5.40; O'Connor 4.26; Turpin 14.54; Pugh 15.75; Slama 18.00--10 pitchers who we are supposed to rely on...can't get anyone out.

A bigger bunch of losers on a AAA team I have yet to see. Maybe they have hidden Tom Nieto in the dugout! These are the ugliest 10 game stats I have ever seen in watching over 55 years of Red Wings baseball. Absolutely astoundingly putrid.

Oh--so nobody is coming down....well fine. With the above 'talent', it won't matter much. I'm betting that there won't be more than 100 or so in the stands for tomorrow and Tuesday's games. they should be paying US to watch this crap.

Hicks basically has 3 days to prove his value.

IF he somehow shines, Arcia goes back down after his cup of coffee.

The best bet is Hicks goes down when Ramirez returns.

Can we give Ozzie a little love for his first career hit in his first at-bat with some heads up baserunning? Mostly laziness on the part of Hamilton, though.

Re: Oswaldo Arcia called up

Hicks best be sweating and doing some serious thinking because Arcia with a hit in his 1st ML at bat, if he gets some hits Hicks for sure goes down, very pleasant surprise and nice to see, then takes 2nd on the bobble, kept his head in the game, nice to see hopefully Gardy doesnt ruin this young guy....

Re: Oswaldo Arcia called up

actually its nice to see Mastro in there tonite as well. At least the guy can get on and he can run. Props to Arcia for his hit. I can't see any scenaio where Hicks stays up short of injury.

Re: Oswaldo Arcia called up

Well that was a short lived callup. At least he goes back to Rochester sporting a .333 batting average. Still think Hicks deserves a demotion. Maybe the Twins have something planned. Talk on the radio last night was that they may bump him down the lineup. If that doesn't work, then what?

Twins got to be looking at the waiver wire and free agency. They got money to spend...stop being cheap Pohlad/Ryan....get something done NOW! It's still April..the season is not lost.....yet.

I'm not understanding much of what they are doing these days. I just go to the ballpark (or the computer)and watch the Red Wings get slaughtered. thats about it.

Re: Oswaldo Arcia called up

If they go after Julio Bourbon, then this would somewhat make sense. Although, I'd keep Oz up and send Hicks down. I guess get Oz as many AB's as possible because I see him being a 2 hitter for us in a few years with Buxton as leadoff. Sano as 3 or 4.

I was bitching about Mastro's injury...how it's not healed since spring training and I was like "then put him on the effing DL and rest him for God shakes!!" Looks like they heard me. lol

RE: Oswaldo Arcia called up

Thomas in AAA is > than Borbon

Give him a try, if it doesn't work, release him again and see if anybody else wants him.

Do something, Hicks is getting worse by the day and needs to find a comfort zone away from Minn

I'm not too sure on Thomas. The guy is kinda a strikeout machine. Borbon has more speed and can do the little things better to get on base. I'd rather pick him up then see us trotting Clete Thomas out there.

Re: Oswaldo Arcia called up

Thomas is definitely a strikeout machine. I wouldn't trust anyone on the Red Wings right now. They are a pathetic mess. 15-103 with RISP. The team has to play in front of TR tonite. Wonder how that will go. Normally I'd be upset with Arcia going back up...but frankly nothing is really going to hurt this team right now.
Hendricks gets a start tonite. Maybe he will throw a no-hitter and lose 1-0.

Why not pick up Borbon.  Thomas is lost against any type of off-speed pitch primarily the breaking ball.  Until he figures that out there is no reason to call him up.  Buxton is killing the ball in low A.  It wouldn't be far fetched to see him get to AA by seasons end.  Hicks better figure it out or he'll be trade bait too.

RE: Oswaldo Arcia called up

all the baseball folks in Rochester are astounded that Hicks isn't here yet. He is a classic example of why you don't put much stock in ST stats. When you rush someone up too soon, often this is what you get... 2-45 is just not acceptable

RE: Oswaldo Arcia called up

He's basically the real life equivalent of Billy Anderson in Major League: Back to the Majors (bad baseball movie but the point stands). He went up to the show, sucked and returned back to AAA and became a complete hitter.
Meyer and May will be top of the rotation starters by 2015.
