Dodgers at DBacks 8/26 - 8/27

Here is a short series for a change.

Go Dodgers!

Let's hope the Dodgers don't continue to get whipped by this 3-8 pitcher whose ERA is approaching 5. The guy is another example of lousy pitchers that our team makes look great; as he stands at 6-2 against the Dodgers with an ERA barely over 3 for his far from stellar career. Ugh!

Re: Dodgers at DBacks 8/26 - 8/27

Not this time! For at least last night, the Dodgers solved Cahill and made his performance more indicative of his record. The offense clicked, the replay worked, and Justin Turner just kept on being our best offensive player. It is not often I get to compliment Colletti, but in fairness, Turner has proven to be a great pickup.

Even Hanley Ramirez played in one game in a row without getting hurt. biggrin Cal Ripken look out.

So much for Matt Kemp not being able to hit 15 HR.

Fifteen??? Hey Dodgfan, the number I recall that he was projecting with the totally overpaid contract was FIFTY plus 50 steals. He told us he could see himself being the first 50/50 guy. Why are you bragging touting 15 homeruns for a $21+ million salary? Some guys making the league minimum do that all the time.

That is not the point he was trying to make. There were many on this forum who did not think he would hit 15 this year. When he said he was going to be the first 50/50 man was right after he came in second in the MVP voting, and really he should have been the MVP. You really have to allow for the horrible run of injuries he has had. As I said before, Matt Kemp is not happy with his production. I am sure he would rather be a 50/50 guy then struggling like he has been. No matter how big his contract.

Except that guys making the league minimum are not paid that way for long after reaching his numbers. for the record Kemp, coming off a year and a half of injuries now has an OPS that ranks in the top 22 in all MLB and headed upwards.

I agree Colo, Puig is fighting is lately.  Often I would say let them work it out, but with him still so young and emotional wound it might be best.  Maybe rest, play, rest, play, for a bit or match him up a little more.  IDK, then again maybe that would play with his head.

I'm not sure we really want Ethier taking up ABs against lefties.  We really just need both Puig and Kemp to figure out their problems this year against lefties, and that probably means hitting against them whenever possible.

Just the facts.

I wonder if it had anything to do with him not being able to predict his own injuries.
Some people, the usual impatient ones, wanted to dump Kemp when his value was at its lowest. I'd say the HRs are part of the package that is now at a higher and possibly further rising value.

Thank you happyhooten. In fact, MDM was one of those guys. I recall distinctively when he responded to a post stating this fact.

MDM, don't make me dig up that post devil

Dig away. What you see is what you will get from Kemp. I read recently where the other GMs rate Kemp's current value at somewhere around $8 million a year, and the Dodgers would have to pay the rest to unload him.

Who cares what other GMs rank it at. I think he has turned a corner and has started to earn his contract. I see no reason for the Dodgers to unload him. I look forward to a full year of his production next season.
